The mailing with the return address in Couzens Hall was just a solicitation to buy all your room stuff through the housing office. It has nothing to do with what dorm you’re in.
@JH8888. There are lots of kids who would give their eye teeth for markley. Including many in the " nicer" dorms like SouthQuad and East Quad. Where did your son want to be? He may find it very easy to trade if he goes on the FB page for his Class
^^^^Not the FB page. There is an official swap page run by the University of Michigan Housing. If he wants to switch out of Markely, he won’t even have to post his request. There will already be dozens of people posting to swap INTO Markely.
Good catch Brantly. That’s what I was thinking of. I certainly can understand a student not wanting Markley but I find it funny that people don’t understand that it’s exactly the environment many people want.
Some people are very affected by aesthetics. Those people will not like Markley.
Most of my sons friends have already heard. Some today. He is still waiting to hear! Looks like they release new contracts every Tuesday.
I’m so nervous. I’m 99.999% I’ll be put in East Quad because I’m in the RC, but because I haven’t heard back I’m like “what if the housing office forgot and they put me on North??” which I know is irrational and I shouldn’t worry.
Do our roommate assignments get emailed to us?
My son wants to be in East Quad. I am going to tell him to trade. Thank you all for the suggestion.
The roommate assignments are up now - you can find yours by logging into the housing app website at https://studentweb.housing.umich.edu/
My son got a roommate he already knew. We are not too happy. We want him to have someone he doesn’t know. Now he is trying to see if he can trade to East Quad or MoJo.
I still haven’t received any info on my housing assignment. I got an email one week ago that assured me they “have a space for [me] within the University Housing system”, but they basically told me to bear with them as they completed my assignment. No word since.
Should I be worried? I haven’t gotten a roommate assignment or anything, should I email housing and ask?
I don’t have mine yet either and they sent me that exact same email. A few weeks ago I had emailed them to make sure they had my application and they said that I was on file. It’s kind of annoying that people already have their roommates and room numbers while we have no information at all .
My daughter is another one still waiting . . . While I usually preach patience, this situation is ridiculous when students are signing up for move-in and getting their roommates and my daughter has no idea where she’s living. :((
I’m in the same boat as you guys. And my twin sister found out 4 weeks ago, which is frustrating. Does this mean that we are getting the worst assignments? Like we get whatever’s left over? I know someone has to be last, but it’s still frustrating.
I am so sorry for your wait! I can’t imagine the stress of that! But this further proves that Michigan needs to step it up with information…
Anyway, I’d call the housing office to basically pester them into giving them information. That’s just ridiculous that move-in is in just over 3 weeks and you still have no idea who the roommates are and which building you/your student will be living in.
I would think this is directly related to the admissions of more freshmen than last year. Two years ago, more freshmen matriculated than expected and there were housing issues. The University had to lease apartments near campus and entice sophs to move there to free up space for freshmen in dorms.
With West Quad coming back in operation last year and with a reduction of admitted freshmen last year, there didn’t seem to be an issue. While West Quad is still there obviously, there are more freshman this year and I would expect that is contributing to this delay in placement.
I may be totally off base, but that is my suspicion.
I agree, this is frustrating especially since I put in my housing application very early. It’s true that it doesn’t truly matter too much, but it would be nice to know where I’m living and to be able to coordinate with my roommate.
I emailed the director of housing and did get a response back today, but it wasn’t any more informative than anything else we’ve gotten. He said he could commit to my daughter receiving her assignment by Friday. How nice.
@blprof Have your daughter send the email. They’ll be nicer and more accommodating when the student emails.
