Housing Contracts 2016

Update… I am in Baits II… ugh

@annabananaF451 did you just hear today?

@rbandrews yes, I found out yesterday (Tuesday). I have a single with a shared bath with a double, though so that is a bonus. My room is 8x10 ft. I am not sure if that is considered small or large…

@annabananaF451 I knew people with some pretty gigantic singles and your’s is a small one, but trust me, size makes no difference. You’ll adjust to whatever you have quickly, and it’ll start to feel like your space, as corny as that sounds. Besides, all that empty space in those giant singles were lowkey awkward. I can promise you Baits is loved by like 98% of the people who live there, even if it is a bus ride away. It’s not the nicest or the prettiest, but the community up there is really, really great.

Michigan housing is pretty shitty when it comes to letting everyone know about assignments. I knew in June but I had friends who didn’t find out until the second or third week of August. It’s so stupid. Be a nuisance to the housing office and you’ll see a contract soon. Call, email, call, email, call, email. I had to do that with financial aid until I got some answers. Love this school but these kinds of things are so hard at giant schools.

@rbandrews Not necessarily. You’ll probably get a shitty move-in time which is frustrating if your parents are trying to move in two people at once, but they make assignments based on a lottery system, as far as I know. The order in which they are released has absolutely no rhyme or reason - it’s not based on when you applied, your name, your student ID, your place in the lottery, nothing. They just throw the assignments together in batches and release them as they please. It’s frustrating, but I wouldn’t necessarily count on having bad housing this year. I hope you hear from them soon!

@agriffith Move in date is fine because I’m doing a program the week before classes, so I move in on the 28th. Sucks to hear about the random release dates, but at least that gives me some hope for a good assignment. I turned my app in at the beginning of April, so does that mean they probably assigned me my room weeks ago and just haven’t released it yet? Because I would’ve been assigned before people who turned it in late.

Yeah, not all hope is lost! One of my friends didn’t get a room assignment until late August but had a converted triple in Couzens (she wasn’t in HSSP) which was basically a big giant double. Like I’m talking 20x15. Don’t stress about it! And even if it’s not a great assignment, most people absolutely LOVE where they end up, regardless.

I didn’t realize we needed to select a time-slot even as part of MLead so mine is less-than-preferable. Are the times that’re given strictly upheld during Mlead or can I show up a few hours earlier without it being a big deal?

Asking because I’m going to be arriving in Ann Arbor during the morning of the 28th and it’d just be more convenient to have the ability to move in right away rather than having to wait until 4 PM.
