My daughter's housing contract came in the mail today. We have since found that the college has posted more info. on line.

yea i saw this as well…i’m in brown (even though i tried to get one of the bigger freshman halls) but its all good. i just wanna know how inconvenient it is living in Brown, seeing it on the map it looks to be pretty far off the main campus and other freshman halls

I got Fauquier in Botetourt
Anything good about this dorm other than its proximity to the Caf and the Rec?

I’m a little bummed…cheer me up? Haha.

Thanks all! :)

It’s only unbearably hot for about a month. And yeah, the location is a pain but you’ll be having too much fun to notice.

Not too bad if your classes are on old campus. Nice long walk if you’re a Govt major though. You’ve got Hunt and Taliaferro and Monroe pretty close by, so you’re not too isolated from other freshmen.

quite an uproar on facebook today… i think i have 10 new friends or something

anyways, i’m in monroe… good, bad, meh?

I loved Monroe. I loved my hall though, so that’s why. It does have excellent proximity to old campus, the UC, and Wawa, so there’s always that as well.

Are you a Monroe scholar or not? It’s about 50/50.

You are close to old campus. Marketplace is not very far. Dining options in merchant square are very close (though they will run through your money, lol). It’s really not very far away at all. I doubt it’s much farther from Brown to Morton than from Botetourt to Wren.

Close to the IM sports fields. Close to the frats? Or what is left of them… Close to the other freshmen in Dupont and Yates. Close to the Hall if you want to watch the basketball games. Really though, the people make the hall, not the dorm.

what can you tell me about dupont hall? I know the bathrooms are suite style and i have AC, but what else is there to know?

Thanks, java, soccerguy.

Dupont, Castle on the Hill. Very desired dorm.

You will be universally envied by those living across the street in Botetourt. (They usually take this out on you by throwing snowballs at you the one day a year campus gets any snow.) You’re close to the Caf, which is wayyyy better than the UC as far as dining goes. Close to new campus, especially the library, Rogers (helpful if you’re taking Physics classes), Jones (Math, Education) and Morton (Government, Econ). Still a lengthy walk to old campus, Wawa, etc.

Dupont sucks. You should try to trade ASAP with someone in Botetourt or Hunt… not really. It has a game room area. Location is very similar to Yates and Botetourt.

I guess the biggest thing with the suite baths is you are responsible for cleaning it.

In all honesty, though, soccerguy is right in saying that the people make the hall, not the building. Everyone adjusts to the space in which they are living, and if you have tight bonds with your hall/dorm in general, you’re going to have an amazing first year not matter where you live.

Botetourt is really close quarters at first glance, but a lot of times I’ve seen some really great friendships emerge from that situation, just because of the size. Ditto for Brown/Hunt. It seems far away, and it is kind of, but if you get along well with the hallmates it doesn’t matter, not one bit.

OMG you’re in brown!? I just finished my freshman year in Brown, best year of my life and the main reason was the tight community that a small freshman dorm brought. You’re across the street from aromas, which is a coffee shop with amazing pastries, baskin robins, retros (diner), and the bookstore is really close. U r really far away from everything on campus, but u get used to walking everywhere. Plus ur right next to colonial williamsburg! U will probably never eat at the caf but saddler is great and ur really close to the marketplace (like a 2 min walk away). I’m so excited for you, i’m really going to miss freshman year it was so amazing

Has anyone ever gotten released from their housing contracts after submitting an appeal? Some stuff has come up recently and I think it would be better for me to live off-campus. I know of some people looking for roommates in their apartments, but unfortunately I already committed to housing in Ludwell. Any advice?

There might well still be people on the waiting list for housing, so you should talk to reslife ASAP, if they have someone who wants your spot, they will probably let you out of the contract. If they don’t, then you are probably stuck with it.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but can’t you just withdraw from campus housing and forfeit your $200 deposit? It would affect your roommate’s rent, though, unless ResLife fills the spot you’d be vacating.

do we actually have to send back the forms we got in the mail?
