Housing Crunch for Freshmen?

A recent article from the Washington Post on the lack of waitlist activity stated that Emory is 50 students over its normal freshman class size. Fifty students is a fair number of bodies to house. Does this mean they will need to convert some doubles to triples, or that lounges will be made into dorm rooms?

How much flexibility does Emory have in its freshman housing? Anyone know if there have been other years where the school had an overabundance of freshmen? Some schools have extra dorm rooms, others buy up nearby hotel rooms for students, and still others cram students together to make sure everyone gets housing.

Any guesses on what might happen?

Sounds like additional triples. Hopefully, by submitting the housing app by last month's initial early deadline will help.

dang it.. I should get to that... yeahhh...

Blaze,
Get you app in by the end of the month. It is an easy process to complete. We can also request roomates this month.

Can anyone help? I still haven't submitted my housing form-- I'm a professional procrastinator. Once I've submitted it, can I still request a roommate or will it be too late? Thanks :)

don't worry, you can still request a roommate if you don't want them to chose one for you.

hmmmmmmmm. i wonder if i've met any of you on learnlink, or facebook.

I was a freshman at Emory last year. There were a lot of empty rooms. They can easily fit 50 extra students in doubles and singles.

I've heard Alabama is the best dorm... how is that set up in terms of single sex by room, floor, building? I put on my housing app form single sex by floor, co-ed building but I'm not sure, I might want co-ed floor... what did you all do?

heres the thing about dorms at emory. no matter which building youre in, youre going to think its the best dorm. i know people who live in every building and think that theirs is the best combination of all things. yes, alabama and mctyeire have the biggest rooms, but it doesnt really matter.

bama is coed by floor. 1st floor is the housing office, and this yea it was 2nd floor girls, 3rd guys. the only non-coed building its thomas hall, which is all girls.

When do we hear about room assignments?

i think we hear about the room assignments in mid june if i remember correctly. not too long from now. exciting.

thanks sooo much dgebll!! i'm really excited now!

we find out about room assignments and our roommates on june 9th!!

also, it said orientation starts on august 26th, and i think it mentioned check-in or something like that... so that means i should aim to be at emory august 26th, right?

yep, the 26th. you literally dont have to do anything except housing sign up until you get to campus. dont worry about classes, clubs, activities, or anything else until you get to atlanta. youll meet with your advisors on the week of orientation and start all of that.

wait? we don;t atart planning any schedule or classes until orientation??

yup. you have until late september for add/drop/swap to end. the vast majority of lower level classes are open, and a lot of spaces are reserved for freshmen.
