Housing Crunch?

Anyone know how this might impact firsties? Might there be triples?

Housing crunch or not, some firsties will be getting triples – they always do.

Apparently, due to the economy and the dollar exchange rate abroad, more students cannot afford to take a semester or year abroad this year. Upperclass women received an e-mail 2 weeks ago suggesting off campus housing or taking a semester or year off.

It would seem that being rated #1 in classroom experience has its drawbacks, more students accept MHC’s offers than usual.

ConCerndDad, do you have any knowledge as to how likely a firstie will be placed in the dorm(s) of her choice? I’ve heard it’s rather unlikely-just wanted to get some insight.

It all depends upon what dorm is your first choice. If your first choice is Porter, Safford Wilder or Mead, these dorms are not very large, are very close to the academic buildings and Blanchard, and are thus very popular among firsties; thus, getting one of those is difficult for a firstie. A first choice is more likely granted for Ham, MacGreggor, 1837 and Mandell due to their relative distance from most academic buildings, although jocks prefer Ham & MacGregor since they are close to the gym. Firsties often get basement and top floor rooms, since upperclassers have already picked (in April) the most desireable rooms.

Darn-I put north and south Rockefeller and Wilder as my top choices :frowning: oh well, I hope I just get a good roommate(s)!

I got stuck in Torrey my first year. Even 22 years ago it was crappy! It was not even on my list of requested dorms! I loved my single in Abbey junior year. My room in Porter is now an office - it was a big double on the first floor with the bow window looking onto the sidewalk leading to Blanchard. Can’t believe they took a great room, and made it into an office. MHC has done a lot in recent years that I just don’t get…

Anyone know where on ISIS the housing assignments will be posted?

Last I heard they were at 2200+ students. Has it gone up substantially?

You should get an e-mail. Last I heard, the housing assignments for firsties will be coming out within the next 8 days. There is much talk re this on the Facebook page for your class.
