Housing Decisions

My daughter's friends have been getting the contracts, day by day, with no rhyme or reason. One friend is not honors or a special scholar, but got South Quad, while another in engin school asked for Central campus and got Bursley, so hard to know how it works -- just luck I guess unless you have a guarantee for a learning community. I would call housing office if the contract doesn't arrive in a day or two, since it only gives you ten days to sign and return. If it is lost in the mail, you don't want to have to sort out the problems due to failure to return it in time.

thank fredmar

Son called housing office and they said same thing you did - give it another day or two. Of course, they wouldn't tell him where he was placed. Glad to hear you daughter got in South Quad. Is she pretty excited to get on with college - son sure is.

Contract arrived - South Quad triple. Anyone have experience with triples? Is it really a double room with three people?

If it says economy triple, then it's three people in a double. If it just says triple, then there will be more room. Usually economy triples are a result of trying to fit a slight overflow of Honors students into South Quad. I'm guessing since there was enough of an overflow to merit moving people to Couzens that there won't be too many economy triples (unless there's a campus-wide housing crunch that would cause them to offer economy triples).

dilksy, thanks for the info. I checked, and it just says triple - not economy triple.

SBDad, glad for your son, as well. South Quad should be great for them. My daughter is at orientation right now, and she sounds a little tentative, seems like a lot of kids came with friends, while she purposely avoided that, so she'd meet new people, now she's finding that hard. Hope this doesn't dampen the enthusiasm.

I just finished my orientation (June 10th session). And yeah, it's true alot of people came up with friends (I met a few kids from Farmington that all came up together, and I know there were about 4 kids from my high school). But it's not all that hard to meet people either way. You just need to try a little harder and take the initiative more. It's still pretty easy imo. Even though I came up with friends, I made quite a few while I was there

I know you are right, Kevin. I tried to give her that advice, just step it up a little, hope it works, but it is up to her. I'm glad you had a good experience.

I'm doing uh Contract Reassignment to South Quad double... but I just got my own contract in, Couzens Hall - Single

Funny thing, I met my 2 best buddies at my orientation session last summer.

--Couzens Hall-- (double)

I am apart of the MCSP.

So how are the oxford doubles? Just found out I'm in one....

I'm in an oxford double too. We could be roomates. :)

I haven't met many people in a Oxford Double. Most seem to be in triples or quads.

Do you have facebook?

Yeah, I do.

Although, I wonder if freshman applicants get to room with sophomore transfer applicants.

I've added you ;)

I don't know about the transfer thing. Don't see many other transfer students in Oxford... Have you joined the Oxford facebook group?

Transfer students only have 3 options. 3 crappy options. Oxford, Baits and Northwood. I'm lucky that I got Oxford. I do think a lot of transfer students live there.

I actually wanted a double (would prefer a single after some unpleasant experiences with a roomate last year) because its gonna be my first year at UMich. Living in a quad/triple would suck IMO.

I'd rather hope for good roomates and have an assured toilet...if you get what i mean. Whats the situation with toilets and doubles in Oxford?

I'm not so sure about the toilets. At PSU we hade a common bathroom for our floor, which had 40 people.

Mostly true. They had told me (after A LOT of pestering) that if I had listed anything other than the 3 crappy choices, and if they had room, I could possibly get one of the other ones.
