UCF is one of my son’s top two choices. He is still waiting on an admissions decision from the second school and potential scholarships for both schools before he makes his final decision. I keep hearing that you have to get your housing application in early for UCF. Can he put a housing deposit down without officially committing to UCF? If so, would you recommend this? I am ok forfeiting the housing deposit if he decides not to attend UCF. We are out-of-state so he would like to live on campus his freshman year.
Yes you can. We are OOS too and my daughter is still waiting to hear from some other schools, but we put our deposit down for housing. I believe you get some of the deposit back if you cancel.
There are multiple threads and sites online that highly suggest this as well.
Here’s the importance of early housing deposits:
UCF has two types of housing contracts – “Academic Year,” meaning for the Fall and Spring Semesters only; and “Annual,” meaning Fall, Spring, AND Summer (at a reduced rate).
“Annual” contracts are for Towers or Northview, and you will probably get in those.
“Academic Year Contracts” are all the rest of the dorms, and your housing confirmation date is critically important in two ways. First of all, confirmation ensures that you will get in SOMEWHERE. Secondly, the assignments to housing communities, individual dorms, and room assignments are done by housing…by housing confirmation date.
So whether you are in a nice apartment at Lake Claire, or a shared bedroom in another complex will depend on WHEN you sent in your deposit.
Thanks for all the responses. We just put our deposit down.
