Anyone know if the housing deposit is refundable. They usually are, but I wanted to make sure.

usually are???? the tution deposit is normally , but housing is not.

here is the link http://www.housing.neu.edu/applying.html

According to the information on the link above (under the 2005-06 housing "license agreement", page 2), the deposit was refundable if cancellation was made by 6/15/05.

[[Upon being accepted to the University, all new students must submit a $400 nonrefundable housing deposit and application by the deadline indicated in their acceptance letter. Housing assignments are allocated in the order in which housing deposits are received. Early deposits therefore are encouraged.]]

this is a quote from that line and from 2006

I just read in the marketing material from NEU that admitted students ought to send housing deposits asap in order to ensure a room on campus. Apparently there are some dormitories 2 - 3 T-stops from the campus and one could end up there if the deposit is not received well in advance.

The second info I heard is that we should disregard the above statement from the prospectus, that all housing applications are being collected by the housing department and only in early August, are the students paired and the notices will go out.

Finally, from a parent of a current student (freshman), I heard that there is a lottery even for freshmen.

Does anybody know what is really going on?

Housing is gauranteed for frosh. I think that someone is pulling your leg. There willl also be another huge dorm opening this fall, so there will be plently of housing available.
