housing deposit

Why is there a $600 prepayment? What do they mean by pre-payment, will they ever return the money?

The pre-payment goes towards your housing costs. You are essentially paying $600 of your housing costs early in order to reserve a position in the dorms.

So what if you are receiving total scholarships and financial aid? I just put the deposit on my credit card hoping for a reimbursement at some point, but it doesn’t seem right. (Not to mention another $250 for enrollment fee.) Small potatoes in the great scheme I guess, but not if you’re in need.

if you have financial need, then ask those offices for waivers. May not be granted, but you can ask.

And even if they’re not waived, you get a refund after your scholarships and aid are applied to your Bursars account.

The reason they require it is simple: you need to show that you’re serious about needing housing. By giving you housing, someone else might have been rejected. If you decide the day before the semester that you don’t want housing, that person was rejected unnecessarily, and that’s not really fair to that person. By requiring a deposit (that you lose if you change your mind), you’re decentivized from frivolous booking.

Anyone having trouble with these fees:

You should contact HOUSING if you need a deferment. ASAP-MAY1 Deadline!
That way ,if granted, you can sign up for housing and your meal plan with the money due being deducted from your FinAid award amount /or due in Aug before classes start.

I also read that after all fees due are paid out, any overage is refunded to you (via direct deposit if you sign up for it).

wow. there are a lot of fees!. I didnt know there was also a $160 fee +$85 for each guest for simply attending FASET (I guess my parents won’t be staying then). There’s even a $25 tour fee!

Well, at FAST you’re paying for housing and food. The tour fee is probably a bus tour of Atlanta.

You don’t have to do any of that.

Sign up for direct deposit via oscar to get your money back as quickly as possible once they’ve determined you’ve overpaid.

They have campus tours almost every day.
There isn’t any charge for this ( did it twice )
On specific days, you can even have a Q & A information session w/ different dept.'s ( Management / Mondays , Engineering /Wednesdays etc…
E-mail them and they’ll send a confirmation back almost immediately.

Can’t really afford the FAFSET orientation. All the required courses are posted online and I thought you could register for classes online too ( Does anyone know if this is right)
I was reading about the orientation / registration and it seems like they’re really pushing for you to attened.

Tried to get buzzcard last time and was told they were issued during the FAFSET too.
( Both deposits had been paid)

You can get your Buzzcard by just going to the Buzzcard office. You can just show up on freshman move-in day and go get it. You can register as soon as they activate your account.

Just call them, tell them you can’t afford to attend, and ask them to unlock your account. Then let us know your major and we’ll help you register.

FASET is really pretty pointless other than getting a buzzcard and registering.

Thank you. That will be a big help.
Received letter confirming acceptance deposit.Instructed to send final transcript-will be end of this month.
Checking into housing early for band camp-which will be good time for BuzzCard and registering.
That gives time to look into Professors and classes offered.
Doing IE /accepted into Honors.
Any insight about registering w/out FASET would be appreciated.
