Housing Deposit?

<p>S's guidance counselor told him that he will be accepted to UT under the 10% rule. This past summer, my S. inquired at the "local" UT office to find out more about the University. They told us to put down our housing deposit in September, if we have any thought of applying. Of course, we will lose the money if he later chooses not to attend. </p>

<p>This seemed awfully early to us, but she explained freshman housing is a scarce commodity, and you don't want to take any chances. Does this sound right? It's my understanding that the fee is $50. Is this the correct amount? And do you have to specify a particular dorm?</p>

<p>Yes, it's the correct amount. Yes, you want to get the housing deposit in as close to September 1 as you can. Don't know if you need to specify a dorm (but I don't think so at this point).</p>

<p>what firefly said, and no you don't specify dorms yet. In november, if you applied for housing earlier they'll give you a contract which you then select your first & second choice dorm, as well as your roomate.</p>

<p>Thanks, everyone, for the info and then links. Too bad the housing situation requires such an "early" sign-up. But it's better to do this than to be left without space in the dorm.</p>
