My friend’s son was accepted as a junior transfer from McGill, but is required to wait a semester and begin next January at Brown. He lives with his girlfriend in Montreal and planned to get an apartment with her near Brown, but the Brown acceptance says he is “expected to live on campus” for at least two semesters. Does anyone know if that requirement could be waived for his situation, or does transferring to Brown mean he has to forsake his girl? He’s nervous about asking for an exception to the “on campus” policy if it means Brown might revoke his transfer acceptance.

They absolutely won't revoke his acceptance. Definitely ask for the exception -- they're tight on housing anyway and would probably be willing to let him stay off campus.
