Housing)dorms VERSUS off-campus

HI there. As a newly admitted student, I'm considering housing both off-campus and dorm. I want to hear opinions and experiences from current UM students. Plz tell me pros and cons of dorms and off campus from various aspects of those housing options, such as price, atmosphere, etc. And, I hope to recommend which housing option is better for me, considering I'm transferred from Asian nation's college.

I'm looking forward to you guys replies.
GO blue!!

hi,im from Asian too, considering off-campus now, my friends told me off-campus apartments and houses can be as cheap as 400-500 dollars, within walking distance, btw, my major is econ, so im considering a house or apartment in central campus.
if ur interested, we can be roommates! here is my mail adrress.

Sound interesting! Since I’m belonging to LS&A and will plan to declare econ major later, it will be great to be a roommate with you. However, I’m not sure now where I will live. If I choose to live off-campus housing, I will contact you. Thanks.

Thank you so much.

But, what do you mean there are no available dorm now? I got admission last month and received letter contained info about housing around one week ago. You mean all vacant dorms were occupied in that one week?? Otherwise, there had been no room before I received that e-mail? Is it highly competitive to live in dorms??

Is there chance to find room later? You know, some students will graduate or may transfer so that they will leave their dorms ,and we can get those vacant rooms.

DO NOT LIVE OFF CAMPUS AS A FRESHMAN
I’m a current freshman (about to be a sophomore in like 7 days woot), I lived in Markley for my first semester, and then I was kicked out of housing (mainly for being a drunken ******). Luckily I moved into my fraternity house, however, it kind of ruined my freshman experience, living in the dorms and eating the food and just getting to know everyone around you and making friends is the quintessential college experience. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend living in the dorms.

WolverineWhiz - agreed! I am an old alumni and the loud music at West Quad, crappy food was memorable, as was playing dorm football and basketball, meeting new friends, etc. Part of the college experience that I would recommend.

Dorming is expensive compared to off campus but yes it’s worth the experience, UNLESS you get a really crappy room/location, in which case I would think twice about the possibilities.

Hey guys,

I have the option to select a room in bursley for my first year starting this fall, which people say is not as bad as some other describe it because you still meet tons of people, or continue looking for an appartment on central campus. If i had the option for living on central campus dorms, that would have done it for me, but since my option is bursley, im thinking twice,

your thoughts are appreciated, thank u guys

I lived off campus freshman year and I loved it. A lot cheaper too and fun.

how was ur experience?
