Housing: First Come, First Serve?

<p>question: when you apply for housing, is it first come, first serve?
I dont even know if i'll go to UCI for sure until a couple weeks.</p>

<p>SIR/SLR/Housing due by May 1.</p>

<p>After that, UCI sends out the housing papers where you can indicate your preferences (e.g. single/double dorm, roommate selection)</p>

<p>Early September, we're notified of our dorm situation.</p>

<p>It's not first come, first serve? Then how exactly do they decide who gets a single room? Is there another personal statement/reason essay type of thing? Ahhhh...</p>

<p>they just take all the people who actually want a single, see how many rooms are available, and pick a few lucky winners.</p>
