Housing for Fall term

I received the campus housing guide cd today. I've just completed the housing contract for Summer B, but I can't complete the contract for Fall term. When can I complete my contract for Fall term?

should be right away. i submitted both at the same time

When I try to complete the contract for Fall term, it tells me that at this time, they are unable to offer me a contract for the Fall 2007/Spring 2008 contract period. Does it mean that rooms are not available?

Call them to clarify things. Maybe there was something wrong with you contract.

maybe you were only accepted into the summer session?

i'm confused with UF acceptances. are the students automatically enrolled for the Fall if they're accepted into the summer session? b/c my bestfriend was accepted into the summer session but she didn't even apply for summer.

If you are accepted into the summer session you are automatically enrolled into Fall as well.

There are a few exceptions, if when they are going through admissions a applicant is deemed better for summer they will be put there. They didnt quite make the standards for Fall admission, I guess. When it comes to that then you being admitted for the Fall does depend on how you do in those summer sessions. This is what I gleamed when the UF admissions guy came to talk to our school.

He made a point to say that if you apply Fall it does give you that option of being put into the summer session while if you apply for Summer if you dont qualify you are just out right rejected.

Your friend probably fell into this catergory, UbiquityEssence, for whatever reason.

They told me that rooms are not available and they put me to the waitlist.
Probably I have to look for off-campus housing......
Can anyone suggest some apartments which are close to the campus, nice, safe, and cheap?

ooh i see! i wanted to do summer session this year but i guess i overlooked that option to sign up when i was applying for fall ...? i heard the summer sessions were full by the time i was accepted in Dec.

that lead me to wonder ............how did my bestfriend get into the summer session when she didn't apply for it and she applied later than i did?!

From my understanding you can switch to start summer if you want. Just call them and tell them. I had a friend that did that. Plus you will get you summer requirement out of the way.

Yes, my daughter's roommate did that last year. She was admitted for Fall but decided to start in summer. She had no problem switching or getting summer housing. She lived in Lakeside over the summer then moved to Broward for Fall.

They accepted too many freshmen to UF this year. 9700 freshmen were accepted but there's only enough space for 7500 students in the dorms-- and that's counting freshmen - seniors. A lot of freshmen are going to need to look for housing elsewhere.

There are a few apartment complexes right off campus and walking distance to classes, where everything is provided just like the dorms, meaning that the rooms are furnished and the utilities & internet are included. We looked at

** The Courtyards - http://www.TheCourtyards.net - furnished, private rooms
** And LaMancha- (I can't find their website, but apparently they aren't a good choice anyway, according to this story in the Alligator: http://www.alligator.org/pt2/070419evicted.php )
** The Ivy House - http://www.TheIvyHouse.net - luxury
** College Manor - unfurnished, studios

We toured these and a few others last year, when my daughter was admitted but placed in one of UF's temporary triples. We went with The Courtyards and Ashley has been very happy there. She's in a private bedroom within a 4 bedroom townhouse with 3 other UF students, all girls. We were concerned that if she didn't live in the dorms, she wouldn't meet other students (none of her friends went to UF and her big sister is there, but she didn't want Ashley tagging along all the time) but she's done great. The Courtyards turned out to be all UF students and she adores one of her roommates. The apartments are nice sized but the bedrooms are a little small (about same size as the double in the dorms we saw at preview). Each girl gets her own room. It's really been a perfect fit. Far better than we a temporary triple.

The Courtyards are co-ed but each apartment is either all-girls or all-boys. My husband wanted her to live in a non-co-ed complex, but we couldn't find one. We wanted her to live at Ivy House which is just down the street, about 1 block from Hume Hall. Ivy is a luxury dorm (not owned by UF). Very upscale- there's even jacuzzi bathtubs-- very nice. But they were already full and only putting girls on the waitlist, by the time we went up to take care of things in Gainesville for her, after finding out about her dorm placement.

For anyone planning on signing a lease for an apartment, I would suggest that you take advantage of UF's fee law service for students (located on the 3rd floor of the Reitz Union). You can bring your lease and the lawyer will go through it with you to make sure you know what you are getting yourself into. I remember him saying that he had a big problem with either trimark or paradigm (but don't quote me on this).
