Housing for First Years

According to the uva website, first years can apply to three housing options -- Alderman Road Residence Area, Gooch/Dillard, and McCormick Road Residence Area.

Which do you recommend would be the best? I would prefer a housing area that is closest to the campus/classes of Arts and Science.

The maps online are confusing since I do not know my way around.

Also, is Gooch/Dillard far from classes? People keep on saying online that no one will visit you because it is far away.

Morton – I think you misinterpreted the housing website; you should look at it again.

The three housing areas you mentioned are the standard first year housing options. If that is what you want, you don’t get to choose among them. Your only preference option is single room vs. double. You will then be randomly assigned a room within those options (unless you have a verified medical condition that requires you have air-conditioning).

The options besides the standard first year dorms are the residential colleges – Brown, International Residence College (IRC) and the residential college at Hereford. Read up on those to see if any interest you – there is an application process for those dorms.

Good luck. If you have further questions, call housing. They are there to help.
