Housing for RD applicant

My daughter did not have FSU on her radar last fall, and therefore, did not apply in time for EA. She applied RD in early December after falling in love with the school during a campus visit.

From everything I've read on this board, it seems as if she may not get housing at all since most of the kids already have their housing numbers and will be able to submit their preferences before RD kids learn of acceptances.

Assuming she is accepted (3.8 unweighted GPA, 33 ACT, top 1% rank, OOS), is there any chance she could get a spot in Landis if she were accepted into the Honors College? Or any desirable dorm for that matter? Does FSU "save" any housing spots for the RD applicants?

She’ll likely still be able to get housing. It’ll likely be in Smith or Kellum (the two “worst” dorms to a lot of people), but there are people that apply in April every year that end up getting housing on campus.

No, it won’t be Landis. I’d almost guarantee that there are people that filled out their housing application the day that it opened that won’t get into Landis.

No, FSU doesn’t “save” spots. It’s all done in order of when you fill out the Housing application, which can’t be done until after you are accepted to the school. Those are the breaks unfortunately when you apply for the second decision date.

Also, just a bit of nitpicking: FSU doesn’t do EA or RD; it’s just December and March decision dates. The December date is actually the standard decision date for the university, while March is essentially the decision date to fill any vacancies.

Thanks Pasbal. She will take a look at Smith and Kellum.

I’m in the same situation. :frowning: What really sucks is that I could easily have applied by the earlier deadline, as I had the application completely filled out, but I was applying to my first choice EA and wanted to see what happened with that first before I paid the application fee. If I’d known how important it was to apply early I definitely would have. It’s not very likely that I’ll go to FSU, though, it’s basically my last choice.

I’m not too sure whether it will be too late to apply for LLCs once you get your admission decision, so you should check those options out as well. There are many threads here that will give you information, as well as searching FSU’s site.

Whatever happpens with your daughter’s housing situation, don’t let a less desirable building change her mind about attending FSU!

I don’t think any LLCs have deadlines before April 1st, so everyone should have their admission decision at least a couple weeks prior to any deadlines for LLC applications.

One thing people might overlook about housing is the LLCs. Buildings like Bryan Hall are completely LLC-only. You never know, you could apply to an LLC that is housed in the building you want, and get in.

Thanks Nolette and Pasbal. We have looked into those a bit as well. She is also considering pledging a sorority, but not sure if she would be eligible to live in a house as a freshman…anyone know if the houses are mainly upperclassmen?

Living in a sorority house would not be possible her first semester. She won’t even know which, if any, sorority she gets into until the day before classes start. The current house residents would have already moved in 2 weeks prior to prepare for rush.

Some sororities require living in their house later on, but not the first semester.

She will make friends whichever hall she lives in, everyone here is so friendly! Just make sure she applies for housing as soon as she finds out she’s accepted.
