Housing for summer internship in Washington DC

Any suggestions for finding affordable intern housing in DC for the summer? S plans to look on Craiglist, but does anyone know of anything a bit more student-specific, or other online resources? He'd like to find something fairly close to his job or at least with easy metro access, and isn't all that familiar with DC neighborhoods.
Thanks

Both American University and George Washington U rent out dorm rooms for the summer specificaly for students doing internships. Maybe Georgetown does too.

Even to students from others schools? That would be great.
My younger son is a student at GW. Now I feel very foolish!
Thanks, megpmom – will give the a call Monday.

Oh - just looked. It sounds perfect, though a bit out of his price range. However, I will ask his younger brother to see if there are any bulletin boards or online resources at GW of kids looking for summer roommates.

Also look for summer sublets in group homes. Many Georgetown students rent in group homes in the Burleith neighborhood right above Georgetown - and will sublet rooms over the summer. Not great Metro access - but very good bus access to the even 30s buses that go down Wisconsin Ave - then down M Street into the heart of downtown DC.

Small world! Grad school D just landed a summer internship in DC, too. She had started looking around online before she knew she had the job, and found some listings by students looking for summer sublets. One she mentioned was with some girls at American University. Now that she knows for sure she’ll be there, she’ll do some more serious searching.

Rockvillemom - Is bus service as trusty as the subway? I ask only because we made the mistake of trying to drive into G’town on a Saturday evening on Parents Weekend. We must have chosen the slowest route. It’s a beautiful area though - I know he’d love it.
CBBlinker - ask your daughter if she’d like a male roommate - haha

Also - I thought the Pentagon was located outside the city a bit - more in the suburbs, but just looked at a map and think I’m mistaken. It’s right in the city? S will probably nab the first thing he finds, so I was hoping to offer any helpful-but-naggy mom input beforehand. Says he just needs a bed and a desk. Thanks everyone for the input-

The Pentagon is, technically, outside the city, in Arlington, Virginia.

But it’s on the Metro and therefore easy to reach from anywhere else that’s on the Metro, so it would not be odd to live in DC and work there.

OP - did not realize you were talking about the Pentagon - he will need to take the Metro for sure. I think I’d try to find housing more in the GW/Foggy Bottom area - so he will be in close proximity to the Foggy Bottom metro station. Foggy Bottom and Pentagon stops are both on the blue line - just a few stops apart - that would be very convenient.

For Pentagon, he should look to sublet in the Rosslyn, Crystal City, Clarendon-Courthouse-Ballston corridor, or Shirlington/Fairlington.
All are trendy areas in Northern Virginia with lots of young people.

checking in again -
Thanks all, will pass this on to him. Good to know the subway line too - that will be a help.
Might be a good idea to ask S2 if he can keep an eye open for any GW summer sublets. S1 and friends always did the same in Boston as their lease was full year.
