Hello, I recently got admitted into UNC (still can’t believe it) and was lucky enough to to get into the honors program!
I was going over the housing but it’s all so confusing and sadly I can’t visit and go around the dorms. I’ve seen every video and read every post but it’s still confusing.
I wanted to see if anyone knows a hall that matches the descriptions of:
Social, non hall(I would like to not share a bathroom with a whole floor), 4-8 total roommates. I would like to build strong friendships but also talk to others in a social environment. I’m not to annoyed by loudness (I can put headphones on or go to the library. )
And is Cobb worth it over every other housing option?
Thank you all in advance!
Edit: I’m planning to major in CS and be on the premed track, I don’t know if that makes any difference
Definitely interested in exactly the same thing. In fact, my daughter is also in Honors, majoring in CS on the premed track. OOS and we’ve never visited -hope to get some responses!
Lots of freshmen choose Granville Towers. Very social. Two bedrooms with a bath in between. Lots of people who end up going Greek - don’t know if that is a pro or a con to you.
Granville Towers is social and has suite style rooms. 2 people per room and 2 rooms share a bathroom in most cases (although there are a few other layouts). It is very close to Franklin St. It is not part of the usual housing application process, so if you are interested, you need to apply there separately.
If you can get into one of the housing complexes on North Campus, you will be closer to most of your classes and Franklin Street than if you are in one of the dorms on South Campus. None of the Mid-Campus dorms are available to freshmen.
Cobb is on North side of Campus and an easy walk to The Library, Student Union, and dining. It seemed very nice when we visited. Quiet and out of the way. Some nice tennis/ basketball courts just outside. Little walk to Franklin St… Seemed like a great choice for the Honors dorm.
Is Cobb the honors dorm this year? Cobb is hall style (or as UNC calls it, corridor style)
The 4 person suites are limited availability. I think for first years it’s only Koury (Manning Community).
The 8 person suites are more common and are on South Campus for first years (between football stadium and the Dean Dome). Those will be Ehringhaus (E-haus), Hinton James (HoJo) and Craige (Crusty Craige). They are all social. HoJo is the largest. The dining hall for south campus is Chase. It’s a 10-15 minute walk to center of campus (student union area). My D lived in a Craige 8-person. Not sure if Craige will have finally finished the new gamer room by this Fall or not.
I should add that you can catch a bus by the dorms that loops through campus, plus some other buses.
