I'm torn on whether I should just request Balch, or play the lottery. I absolutely would not want to be placed in a townhouse or program house, and I heard some students are even when they do not request one.

Are their many cons for Balch compared to other dorms?

You can request which dorm you go to? Or is it girls only?
I don’t think you can get placed into a program house is you play the lottery - I’m not sure though.

You CAN get placed in a program house as a freshman even if you don’t apply for it, but it’s rare and only happens if a really low number of freshmen apply for a certain program house [e.g., Ujaama].

anyone know how the latino living center is? I hear it’s pretty nice but idk for sure

@shoot - I’ve seen the outside of the building and it looks pretty run-down [made completely of brick] but idk about the inside.

So you can get placed in a program house (or any other housing for that matter) even if you don’t request it. If not enough people request a building then other students are put into the empty spots. They have to fill everything in order for everyone to get a room.

The LLC is actually pretty nice, suites, got repainted recently from what I understand. All of the program houses are smaller and have closer knit communities. I recommend them if you want to be really involved or are not into meeting a thousand people- just a few really friendly people. Also if you want to live on campus all 4 years they are your best bet because you can ask to return each year before anyone else gets to pick housing.

Balch is nice- historical for sure, has a coffee shop in it at the Tatkon Center. I don’t think too many of the halls are terrible though. Make it want you want it to be.
