I just applied for UF and got an email about housing applications, but I have no idea what I should do, or where I should go. I want the college experience, but I like being able to cook, and being around a lot of people. I think being around Frats would be pretty cool, but I also need to focus on school, but at the same time I want to have fun. I know I am all over the map. Which is why I need some help.

I think living on campus is a great, worthwhile experience you should definitely do. Every dorm floor has its own kitchen with stove, oven, and microwave, so cooking is still an option if that is what you’re interested in.

Whatever you decide to do, pay the housing deposit early, as that determines your picking order when you get to select your building and room.

Congrats on applying to UF, good luck, and welcome!

My daughter just started UF and just moved into Simpson Hall. She loves it. Rooms are doubles, with a shared bathroom on the hall. Coed, with girls/boys on every other floor. Only four stories. Building has been totally renovated with new Pergo flooring and new paint throughout – it has that new car smell! My daughter and her roomie brought their own mini fridges and a microwave, but they live across the hall from the kitchen/lounge which has a full stove, microwave, dining tables and a pretty uncomfy but functional couch with a flat screen TV. There’s one of these lounges per floor. Only seemed to be a handful of showers on the floor, but they’ll work it out I’m sure.

At the bottom of the dorm is a convenience store with a deli which is open at odd hours. The dorm is near swimming pools, tennis courts and frat row. There is another dorm next door which starts with an F. Fletcher, maybe? Sorry, I’m old and can’t remember anything. :)

My daughter got lost and went for an unintentionally loooong bike ride trying to find the Chipotle off campus, but by day 4 has figured it out and says the dorm is close to the dining hall and flex bucks places.

There is a dorm across the street called “Hume” which says honors dorm. So I guess Simpson is in an area with a lot of dorms and things going on.

Hope any of that helps. It’s hard to leap into the unknown but I’m happy to report that at day 4 my daughter is doing well. Enjoy!

I meant to say the deli seems to be open a lot, which includes odd hours like weekends and the middle of the night. As a parent, that blew my mind! Now there is no excuse to not study, including hunger! ;)
