I am trying to decide which dorm I’d like to live in in Fall 2009. I am a Tisch accepted student, majoring in some type of film production (maybe editing). What dorm is closest to the Tisch academic buildings (but also a good dorm)? I don’t want to have to walk too far but I also want a very active, exciting dorm and I definitely want to live in a suite.

There are threads on here that discuss housing. Search under “NYU housing,” “NYU dorms.” etc.

Also look at the residential section of the school website.

Residential costs vary. You’re lucky if cost is no object. My understanding from reading posts here is that Hayden is perhaps the most desirable freshman dorm near Washington Square.

My son’s first choice will be Rubin triples because they are cheapest.

If I remember correctly from my visit to the school a couple of months ago, Hayden is the closest to the main Tisch building.

NJTheatremom, the rubin triples are what I’m choosing too! I’m actually surprised that they’re the cheapest freshman dorm considering that it’s located on the amazing Fifth Avenue.

Hi Bondgirl, I checked the archive and see that you got into Tisch ED and will be in ETW…Haley Joel’s studio, lol…congratualtions.

It is very likely my son will attend NYU, but we are still waiting to hear from Boston University. If by any chance he gets accepted there and their financial aid offer is good, that is where he’ll go, we’re pretty sure. BU a real long shot though, as with any of these competitive programs.

In the meantime, he is so pleased to have been accepted into the Tisch BFA Acting program. These days, we are 50% happy and excited, and 50% scared about the cost.

I’ve thought my son should check out the facebook group “NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts - DRAMA 2013”…but I don’t think he wants to do that until he is positive that he’ll be attending.

We’ll be at the accepted students day on April 4. Do you live near enough to attend that? We’re fortunate in living only an hour and a half south of NYC.

Thanks for directing a post to me on this quiet little thread. PMing would also be welcome if you are so inclined. I always like knowing more about the talented and determined young people who have chosen this path.

My son would probably be fascinated to know whether you actually physically resemble a “Bond girl.”

Lol, I didn’t know that Haley Joel’s studio…that’s both cool and intimidating at the same time.

I know what you mean about the cost. I’m fortunate that I took a year off, and have all this time to apply to scholarships, but I’m still going to have to take out loans, which scares me.

I wish I lived near there! I live in Dallas, Texas

Hahahaha, I chose my screen name here like two years ago when I was going through a Bond phase for some reason, and it embarasses me now. I’m sad to say that I don’t think I physically resemble a bond girl. Maybe if I grow a few more inches lol.

Wow you’re in Dallas, bondgirl. That’s a long ways away. I lived in San Antonio as a teenager and came east to college and it was soooo different.

My son got accepted at BU, but Tisch is offering better financial aid. We are going to visit BU soon, because we’ve never been, and we are also going to see if BU can match NYU’s aid offer.

It will be nice when everything is settled. We have a big purple NYU folder and a big red BU folder sitting side by side on the table, as if taunting us with the difficulty of choosing between them, lol.

Wildcard, if you start a new thread in the main musical theatre forum entitled “CAP21 summer - need housing advice” people will be much more likely to see it and respond.

San Antonio is insane now; it’s so dirty and has so much crime Yeah, the east coast and texas are like apples and oranges. My heart’s always been in NYC. Can’t wait to move there!

Congratulations on your son’s acceptance to BU! Good luck with everything!!!
