I got off the wait-list for Davis about 3 days ago (May 5) but when I was reading about housing applications today it said the deadline to submit a housing app was May 6th. Surely they extend the date for people who just got off the wait-list right? How will I submit it and look for a roommate?
Also, originally I was going to live off campus until I found out incoming freshman aren’t eligible to live in certain parts of off-campus. I was going to live in the Sorrento apartments which are separate from UC Davis but are near campus. Is there really no way I can live there? If not, do I still have time to submit a residence hall application and find a roommate?
Congratulations!
My son is in the same situation. He already submitted his SIR and housing application to UCI, and then heard on Friday that he was offered admission to UCD off the waitlist. I called UCD Housing and they said that since he was accepted off the waitlist, he has up until three days after his SIR deadline (5/13) to submit an “on time” housing application and to be guaranteed on campus freshman housing. I am not sure If he were to submit his SIR today if the three days would start with his SIR submittal, or the 5/13 deadline, but I am pretty sure they said 5/13 + 3 days. You might want to call them tomorrow morning, but you should still have time to submit your housing application.
My son is still trying to decide if he wants to switch schools. He is leaning towards staying with UCI.
You can submit your housing application now and pick a roommate later.
I had a friend who lived off campus as a freshman which was separate from UC Davis. Not sure how the process works though, but it’s possible. Would suggest that you call up housing and ask. It’s probably cheaper to live off campus but imo, freshman dorming was an unforgettable experience and I wouldn’t have met most of my friends here if it wasn’t for living in the dorms.
You don’t need to look for a roommate if you live in any student housing facility (dorms, student housing apartments). They’ll assign you one based on a lottery system, unless you and another person both specifically request each other. If you want to live off campus in a complex not run by student housing, then go on the UCD Housing page on Facebook and look around/post.
For what it’s worth, it’s much cheaper to not go through student housing, but this late in the year you probably won’t be able to find something else very easily; leasing season is in February here, March if you’re late to the game, and by April the best places are usually long gone.
Incorrect. You can live anywhere you want, but at this point you’d most likely need to find someone who already has a lease and is looking to add someone else. I think some of the apartments run by student housing may restrict freshmen specifically for their apartments reserved for student housing, but if you go through the actual apartment complexes you shouldn’t run into that issue (assuming they still have apartments to lease this time of year). I’ve known quite a few people who lived off campus, even at complexes that offer student housing apartments, their freshman year. It’s not particularly common, but it’s not impossible or unheard of.
