Illini Towers is the very nice private dorms while 6 pack (gregory/peabody) is the public dorms which i hear is much more social..? where are you guys rooming and are the disadvantages/advantages of IT vs. 6pack?

it's hit or miss really...depending on how social you are you should be fine anywhere, but yes 6-pack is generally the place to go if you really want to meet a lot of new people unless your floor just plain sucks or if you get placed in the wannabe six pack buildings. IT is very nice amenities wise though.

I have a friend who lives in IT, and my girlfriend lives in the 6-Pack (Hopkins, specifically).

In general, I'd say that IT is a lot better. However, for your first year, it would probably be better to live in the 6-pack.

The difference between 6-Pack and IT is analogous to the difference between Honda Civic and BMW 6 series.

So does anyone know what the best dorms are if you're majoring in architecture?

if you are majoring in jewchitecture IT would be better.

I lived in the 6 pack freshman year and I have friends in IT now that I'm always visiting...

For freshman year, I'd take the six pack.

Six pack is excellent socially, and I believe its much cheaper than IT. IT is awesome though, better food, looks better, and is way more private. I agree that as a freshman, sixpack would be better for you.

thanks so much! thats what i was leaning towards, IT is beautiful but socially you meet more people at 6pack...i applied to Weston has anyone heard anything good or bad regarding that learning community center?

Considering that studio classes don't start until sophomore year, and that you'll take almost no architecture freshman year (you take 101 and maybe 210 if you enroll, and then maybe a 199 if you choose)... and that most of the classes that you will end up taking will be located on the main quad/all over the place, any dorm will do.

As for your second year, sophomore studio is located in the Art East Annex on the South Quad by the ACES library and Agr. Engineering Bldg, so your best bet dorm-wise is FAR or Allen hall. Next closest would be 6-pack, and then everything else is rather far away. In retrospect, I would have chosen Allen, since it literally neighbors CRCE, the east recreation center. By the time you are at school though, IMPE (now renamed "ARC") renovation will be done, and that is the west recreation center which is located across the street from the 6-pack.

Is there any advantage to selecting Gregory or Peabody in the 6 pack?

well keep in mind there will be a lot of construction on the both sides, mainly near the weston and garner area. benefits of peabody is you are right across the street from the gym. benefits of gregory are, well, i guess not that much.
