HOUSING!!! )(ITS HEEEEEERE!!) and legit this time

It could be interesting. And you still don't know what they're like. And if all else fails, just be cordial- roommates don't hafta be best friends.
Wait... is it the people or the place you're worried about?

It's mainly the people that I am concerned about....but I also know very little to nothing, other than what I've read on the Syracuse website and on here, about Booth Hall....I was really hoping for Haven Hall...

MOST international students are very smart, and make cool friends. They have a different perspective than the usual rich-white-New England-prep that inhabits Syracuse. One of my best friends at SU lives in Taipei, Taiwan. Granted, one of my other friends had a roommate from South Korea and that turned out to be a total nightmare (the kid never left his room except for class - which meant late nights playing video games. There were one or two times my friend "walked in at an inopportune moment" as well (I'll leave it at that).

Anyway, Booth is a very nice dorm. It is a bit high up on a hill, but the rooms are huge. It is also about 5 minutes walk from campus. Another downside is that Haven is the only dining hall worth walking to, unless you have class near Shaw and its at meal time. Well, I take that back. Actually the food IS that bad that its worth walking to Shaw :p

well if the food is that bad at haven ill walk to shaw. i cant even get in touch with my roomate. it says her number is 'unallocated'. im mad. im coming from far away and i need to kno if i need to bring a tv or not.

I rarely watch TV as it is, but regretted not bringing one last year. I have a small 12" one in my room here at home, so I'm gonna bring that with me and when I come home for winter vacation, just go buy a new one.

Alternatively if you have a desktop PC you could buy a TV tuner card, plug the cable line directly into your computer, and watch it on your monitor :)

Hey, my roommate is an internation student too! She's from Sri Lanka. I'm actually really excited I got put with an international student. Sadly, I haven't managed to get into contact with her yet. :(

getting antsy about the roommate. She seems a lot like me on facebook, and we're going to be together a lot (both magazine majors, similar interests). She's back in town, so she messaged me, but she doesn't seem as psyched as I am right now. Hopefully we'll get in contact again, and I'll get less worried about how things will go. Just thought I'd voice the angst.

go listen to some emo music and hate on your parents? :P

Anarchy, have you seen the Brockway dorms at all?

Don't be ridiculous, Anarchy. I'm just talking.

Yargg: brockway itself is very small (as you know), has a small computer lab by the main entrance (its part of the Brewster/Boland complex), and is quite clean. I haven't been in the rooms at all though. You can view building descriptions, floor plans, and room dimensions at http://housingmealplans.syr.edu/build_descrip/build_descrip.shtml

Threekids: I'm just BSing too ;)

i might do that tv thing xept i dont have a desktop.does it work with a laptop?

3kids whats your name on facebook??

anarchy are u gonna help me move in? its only right.

Haha Melo we're already facebook friends...I'm Talie. And the TV tuner thing does work on laptops, that's what I'm using.

melo - One of the reasons that notebooks suck so much is that they have hardly any room for expansion :) Only desktops have the slots and the space for a tuner card.

As for movein, I signed up for the "Goon Squad" (stupid name, but apparently there is a historical storyline behind it) so that I can move back to campus ASAP (Aug 22). They help people move into their dorms and answer questions. I'll be helping people move into Brewster/Boland on August 23rd from 1pm to 4pm. So you will have -somebody- to help you move in, but it won't be me :P Once I'm done with that little stint, my time will be split between setting up my room, working at the Daily Orange to get the office set up for the year, and partying my ass off before classes start :-)

Anarchy - There is such a thing as an EXTERNAL TV tuner. Works fine on my laptop. :)

Melo - I'd strongly recomend going for the TV Tuner option. They can get kinda pricey but it's totally worth it to save some space. :D

Check this one out: http://tinyurl.com/lkyfc
Bit pricey, but it comes with a fancy remote.

Check Newegg or eBay for cheaper prices.

Good luck! :D

remember with TV tuners though there will some delay... fine if you're watching TV, but if you decide you want to play xbox or something using a TV tuner messes you up

ahhh why bother playing an xbox that way - just download an emulator and download the game too. If you already own the game then you aren't breaking any laws (if you even care about law breaking, that is).

On the topic of piracy, does SU offer free music downloads?

Got a facebook, Anarchy?

emulators suck balls compaired to the real thing.
