I just got my housing lottery timeslot, and my room selection time period is for somewhat early on the second day for rising sophomores. I guess there's no chance for a single then?? So far, my friends have worse times than I do.

Can anyone who did this last year recall what types of rooms were left on the second day of room selection?

It sounds to me like the system has changed from last year, since when we did it it was one day per class year, starting at 6:00 am and going all day.

If it matters, there were 20 minute time slots starting at 6. Nearly all singles on West were gone by 7.

Thanks for the reply monkey. I guess there's no hope for a single then. :( How about regular rooms/doubles in West? Is it that there's basically no chance that I'll be able to live on West if I don't get to sign up until the next day?

I think you should have a March 3rd date. It's strange though, I don't know one rising sophomore (current freshman) with a March 4th date. EVERYONE I know has the 5th.

I had huge problems last year with the lottery. I now live on a program house on North Campus. Is my 7:30PM time slot on March 3rd enough to be guaranteed a single on West?

same as chendrix here, got a March 4th date and a current freshman.
I thought everyone was on the same day...and I also thought it started at the crack of dawn like it apparently did last year. I thought I read the materials too!

I'd say you're definitely screwed. My junior year, when I was a rising senior, I applied for the housing lottery. By the time I got there to look over the available rooms (allowed me to decide if I wanted to live on campus or not), there were no singles left. There were however a large amount of doubles left on West.

I highly doubt that any sophomores, barring some medical condition, will be able to procure a single room. Just be happy you're on West and not in some hippy slum like the Ecology House (I honestly don't even know if that's true it just sounded funny).

This isn't true. Only a small set of rooms is reserved for Juniors and Seniors. This doesn't make perfect sense, but while they get first choice of certain rooms, since Sophomores are still guaranteed housing, they get the largest set of rooms allocated to them during the lottery. Even if you didn't see any singles left, that doesn't mean they weren't available.

Thanks for the info everyone. I'm pretty sure that my time slot is so bad that there will be pretty slim pickings by the time I get there! Oh well...

Were all of the new houses on West finished when you were participating in the lottery? Maybe now that they are all completed it might be better? What about singles in the dorms in Collegetown? I still think it would be nicer to live on West though.
