Housing lottery

My daughter is a Pitt freshman, and soon will be signing up for next fall's housing. She wants to be in a suite, w/ three other girls. She says none of the four have great lottery numbers.

How often do sophomores get the housing they want?

Any suggestions for her, from those who've been through this before?

Everyone I knew got the housing they wanted sophomore year. Unless something has drastically changed, I wouldn't worry too much.

You might not get your first choice of building, but four person suites were available throughout the sophomore selection last year. Bouquet Gardens filled up, but there were lots in the quad, and probably in the newer buildings up the hill as well.

Their first idea was Bouquet, but they figured they had no chance, so they're hoping to get a suite on the quadrangle . .

BTW, I wasn't including Bouquet in my post. I personally don't consider Bouquet on-campus housing, as it is a campus supported apartment and not a dorm. The dorms seem easy to get in the quad as a sophomore.

They will get to use the best lottery number of the group. If she gets some number in the 5000's, her intended roommate may get one less than 100. I think for sophomores interested in Bouquet, it really depends on how low the numbers are. I think a couple of apartments there were still open when the sophomore selection began.

Actually, the quad is very nice and not that much different...very apartment-like with a kitchenette and a living room.
