Housing/Meal Plan application?

Not the colleges I’ve seen.

Rooms are comparable. Triples are crowded. And somehow, people manage.

The triples are cramped because the rooms were designed as doubles. Like many other colleges, AU is squeezing in more students than it can accommodate. The upside is that tripled students pay less for their dorm fee.

How does the roommate selection and room selection process work for those who are accepted into University College? Is accepted, will my D still fill out the roommate matching questionnaire and have the opportunity to see others who are taking the same UC seminar? Or are all UC students randomly paired (or tripled) with someone from their same seminar without any input from the student? And does being in UC change your chances of being tripled? She deposited on April 22 and submitted the UC application on April 24th.

Has anyone had any success matching up with a roommate for this Fall yet? It seems a little awkward that you have to choose to make contact with someone and try to figure out if you want to room together or not. As far as I know, at other schools they do the matching for you instead of telling you to do it yourself. Anyway, I’m interested in hearing what you guys (and girls) think of the AU roommate matching system so far.

More like, they’re offering you the opportunity to find a roommate on your own. If you don’t find a roommate, they will put you with one of two other people. But they won’t really make an effort to match you for messiness, staying up late, etc.

But I think you’re right. I think a lot of other colleges try to match you with roommates on those criteria.

I’ve been tripled :frowning: and I still don’t have roommates.

Sorry, ladye. De-tripling really does happen. And often, it’s offered in fairly short order.

Sorry ladyelizabeth. Don’t worry about it - it will work out in the end. My D was offered numerous chances to detriple and hopefully you will be offered that chance early on. Although my D hated her living arrangement first semester she still had a wonderful first year at AU. There are a lot worse things in life. There are some things you have no control over. This is one of them.

Thanks, I’m just worried about space for my things. Do people generally spend a lot of time in their dorms anyway?

My daughter did not spend a lot of time in her room. She spent more time there when she switched to a double but still spent most of her time elsewhere.

Anyone have any luck finding a roommate yet???

I’ve yet to have any luck finding a roommate too. I agree that the process is pretty awkward. It looks like I might just end up having them pair me up with roommates.
