Housing near Berkeley

Hello guys,
I plan to the next academic year at UCB (Fall 2010+Spring 2011). I need housing during that. Any of you could suggest me how to find a place?

Would it be realistic to expect spending less than $500 a month around UCB? (Sharing room is OK). (I don't mind if it is like 15 minutes of riding away or so).

And, any website suggestions that can help me to find a room/roommate?

craig’s list and cal rentals is a pretty good source to look for housing.

by 15 minutes of riding away from campus are you referring the are around albany, oakland, and el cerrito area? $500/month can get you a single room np, but you need to consider factors such as grocery shopping and night safety issues if you decide to live farther away. (Yes, despite popular perception, the vicinity of Berkeley area is actually decently safe compared to Richmond and Oakland area)

in terms of roomies, why don’t you try and ask some of your classmates/friends first? sometimes it’s much better this way because you know first hand that you will be rooming with a fellow student rather than some hidden crackhead or psycho.

My roommates and I are vacating a 3br/2ba house (bottom half of a duplex) with $2480/month rent at the end of May. It’s about a three-minute bike ride or fifteen-minute walk away from the northwest corner of campus, and our neighbors are eager for us to refer fellow students who aren’t inconsiderate/noisy. Four of us shared the three rooms, but it’s a big house so if you got six kids together you’d easily be able to pay under $500/month. I’d split it up something like $460/$460/$390/$390/$390/$390 (one room adjoins the foyer which is perfect for putting two desks, freeing up space inside the room itself).

PM me if this sounds interesting to you and I’ll forward you our address. I think our landlord has an ad up on Craigslist right now, not sure.
