Are there any current students who live on/lived on North Campus freshman year? Tell me about it. Is it really annoying to have to take the bus everywhere? I'm curious because I heard that 50% of incoming freshmen will live on North Campus.

not sure about 50%, but it's def a large number...generally, north campus is bad, even if ur a first-year engin student. unless u like being in the middle of nowhere, don't live there

the only two reasons i can think why anyone would want to live on north would be food at bursely and Panda Express.

This is my first time back on college confidential in sooo long. wow, i used to obsessed with this site. I thought I'd check on the Michigan forum. I am a freshman and I live in Bursley. North Campus gets really old really fast. The buses aren't that bad unless you have to be somewhere on sunday, in which case you have to wait 30-40 for one. You are correct to say that Panda Express is the only good thing about North. If you are not an engineer or in the school of music, especially if you want a social life, I suggest the following:

Claim that you have to live on central due to religious reasons (i.e. i know a kid who said they were an orthodox jew and could not ride in a car on saturday...that kind of stuff actually works

Claim you have some kind of disease that makes it a necessity for you to live on central...chronic motion sickness will be perfect if you can pull that off. These are things I've heard that kids have made up to not have to live on North...i hope you don't need a doctors signature...

I tried to pretend I liked North campusfor all of first semester by saying stuff like "well, if i lived in markley I'd have to walk 10 minutes in the snow, and since I live in Bursley I can take a 10 minute bus ride and not have to be freezing cold. That would be a valid point if kids in Markley didn't have social lives. Or if the bus wasn't completely full and you had to fight with other kids to get the last standing room spot when your class starts in 4 minutes. If you want to meet kids, markley is where it's at. Yes, Bursley has pretty good food, and I am close friends with Sexy Grandpa (if you don't know him, you will soon enough)...but quite frankly, I'd try to room swap if you get stuck up here.

north campus reminded me of the retreat houses i had to go for retreats in high school (shudders)...never want to live there...so quiet...TOO quiet lol...but it looks nice in the winter, haha, I'll give it that

now I'm really scared. does anyone know how soon after applying for housing you get your assignment?

If you try to go the medical route, you will have to have a letter from a doctor and it will go to a review board. There's a doctor on the review board who will call your doctor. There are very few medical conditions that prohibit people from riding a bus. About the only people who can make this work are people who use wheelchairs.

Bursley or Baits aren't as bad as people say. Every year, about 600 students reapply to live there - which is higher than at most residence halls. Next year, there's going to be a new cafe in Bursley - and the dining hall will be air conditioned. If you get placed there, you'll still have plenty of friends and a social life. Markley is the PARTY dorm - it's true. But almost nobody repplies to live there - so what does that tell you. Living in a party gets annoying when you're trying to study or sleep.

The following is the URL to an article in today's Michigan Daily about the evolution of North Campus:

That is a good article. I think North Campus is sweet, but I can see how the commute can get old.
