Is the August 5th date a myth or the truth? I have really been looking forward to this day and if that turns out to be false I will be angry.

haha I agree. I haven’t gotten an email yet :/

It’s not a myth, if you check out the Housing and Food services facebook page, they recently updated 15 minutes ago,
“2011-12 room assignment emails and status updates will be sent later this afternoon!”

Yay! I’m so excited!
Here’s the link to their facebook page so you can see it for yourself, [Housing & Food Services - University of Washington (UW) - Education, Professional Services - Seattle, WA | Facebook](Housing & Food Services)

Theyre in!

Yeah, I sent an email, but the respondent told me that only those who applied “very early” are going to get their assignments today for the most part. Don’t know what to make of that considering that I’m pretty certain everyone applied for housing as soon as it was available causing a server crash. I didn’t get my application in until a few days after it opened because I was admitted off the waitlist, so we’ll see…but in the meantime you guys should use this thread to tell us if you got your first choice, second choice, etc.

I got my 1st choice!

Apparently I may not be assigned until mid-september, worst case scenario: temporary housing. Very low blow by the UW considering my late application wasn’t my fault.

hey, my sisters friend got admitted off the waitlist in mid June last year and ended up getting a nice double in McMahon. don’t give up hope yet

Yeah, UW likes to screw over transfer students. I applied on July 1 because that is the earliest I could apply, and I am on the waiting list. I talked to a HFS representative a few days ago who said my only option if I want to go through UW housing is the Cedar Apartments. There’s no way I can afford to pay $979/month. It sucks. UW is screwing me over in a lot of other areas too. It’s very frustrating. :/

This is the email I got:

"Thank you for your application to live in the University of Washington (UW) residence halls for the 2011–12 academic year.

You are probably already aware that the demand for residence hall spaces is exceptionally high this year. Over the last month, we have worked hard to accommodate as many applicants as we can. Where reasonable we have converted some double rooms to triple rooms, and we expect to use every available temporary space within our facilities. Even so, we do not expect to have enough space to accommodate all applicants. Therefore, we are forced to make some very hard decisions regarding what students to prioritize for assignment.

We regret to notify you that, at this time, we do not believe we will be able to assign you to a space in the residence halls for autumn quarter. We recognize that this is a difficult situation for you and your family, and we regret any inconvenience this difficulty may cause you."

Honestly, I don’t think UW LIKES to screw over transfer students…it’s just a case of somethins gotta give.

UW screwed over everyone, so many people are stuck in triples, including me…

@ momomomo: Is it really that difficult for them to save some housing for transfer students, though? That’s what I expected them to do. We obviously aren’t going to be able to apply as early as current students, so we should be given an exception to the time-based priority system.

It’s also not just this I am upset about. There are other things too. If it had just been housing, I could deal with it, albeit with a slightly diminished enthusiasm for the school. But with all of the other problems they’ve given me, I’m outright peeved. All of this could have been solved if I had been notified of my admission earlier.

I signed up within 2-3 hours of the application going live… (Would have been 2 minutes if the server didn’t crash). Got my second choice and am in a triple and my room is in kind of an unfortunate spot…next to the RA… sigh…

This is ridiculous. I am a transfer student as well, I applied for housing right after I call them and make sure I can still get a spot. How come it takes so long to tell us that we do not have any dorms to live in?

I got my fourth choice, a single in Stevens Court. Don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

kayleyFC & laypk123: I transfered winter quarter last year, and I agree with you both. In fact, when I had my A&O the speaker straight up said that the UW makes it harder for transfer students at every possible avenue, as they cater to the 4 year students and we aren’t as much of a priority.

Once you’ve been in the system for a quarter though things will get easier.

hullite: what don’t you like about steven’s court? I live there and love it

Sorry guys – I have been in the same spot (no room autumn quarter). I had to commute for three hours each way – UW did not care at all. Supposedly it was going to be better this year because of the new dorms – did they stop using Mercer though? That could be why some of you guys don’t have rooms.

[Missing Mercer | The Daily of the University of Washington](http://dailyuw.com/news/2011/jun/20/missing-mercer/)

Yes it was supposed to be demolished in July. It hasn’t yet, but will soon. (I’m guessing it’s because the police are currently using it for swat training, etc…I got an email warning me about it a week ago)

@ hullite: I’ll take your Stevens Court room if you don’t want it. ;D

@ andrea: They offered me a spot in the new apartments (Cedar), but it’s $979/month, so I had to decline. I’m checking out Nordheim Apartments though.

I’m in the same boat- no housing since I’m a transfer. It’s really disappointing because I have wanted to dorm to meet new people- I’m not sure what to do now :/
