Housing Options for freshmen?

Looking for some input on housing. Is it a real problem to not have air conditioning? Because the campus is relatively small does location matter? What should a freshmen consider if they are requesting a specific dorm? THANKS>

It just depend on your personal preference but here is some info.

Barret: co-ed, hall style bathroom, I visted this one I think it is the nicest

Dupont: co-ed, suite bathroom, this one is nice as well but I personally don't like suite bathrooms because you have to clean it yourself, buy your own cleaning supplies, and buy your own toilet paper.

Yates: co-ed, hall bathroom, this is the biggest one of the other two dorms

Stay the hell away from Taliaferro.

Because????

don't hate on Taliaferro! lol

Taliaferro is far away from most of the Freshmen. It's small (smallest freshman dorm, only like 49 kids), and doesn't have AC. Hall bathrooms. Very close to old campus. Food a 15 second walk away.

Jefferson will be mixed freshmen and upperclass... I dunno if it has AC. Hall bathrooms. On old campus, 1 minute walk to food.

Barrett is formerly all girls, next year will be the first year it is coed. Hall bathrooms, no AC. Best location for classes, still far away from most of the freshmen. 2-3 minute walk to food.

Dupont - near most freshmen, far away from old campus, close to new campus and the main dining hall (currently being renovated). Close to W&M hall and the Rec Center. AC/Suite Baths.

Yates - near most freshmen, closer to the UC than Dupont / Botetourt. Near W&M Hall and Rec, as well as main dining hall. Hall baths. Game room in the basement. Requires you to walk by the only ugly part of campus on a daily basis (the swamp like place).

Botetourt has hall baths, near W&M Hall + Rec. Farthest from Old Campus. Near the main dining hall.

... all that said, the Rec center to the Wren building (completely across campus, well, the academic buildings and such, not to the lake) is like a 15 minute walk, 10 if you go fast.

I would go for the AC, it was hot for the first month without it.

In your dorm, mostly you get to know the people on your hall really well. In taliaferro, we knew the whole dorm since it was so small. I've talked to people in the bigger dorms about this, and they say they definitely don't know everyone, but it seems to me it would be nicer to have more people around, and have the opportunity to meet more.

... and I left off Monroe... it's on old campus, not really close to other freshmen... but the closest to Wawa.

Dammit Ken, I've earned the right to hate on Taliaferro and we both know it!
