Housing Payment Already Due in March?

An initial $2125 housing and food payment is due BY March 1st for all the early decision kids. As in ~6 weeks!

I applied for Cal Grant(through the FAFSA), and hope to qualify for $5900/year. I don’t know when I’ll be receiving the money, but they could sure come handy right now. Is there any way they can maybe push the deadline back for those receiving aid??? All these expenses are coming fast(and are large!).

I’d appreciate extra info anyone might have.

During the online housing application process, students will make an initial $2125* housing & dining payment (or mark the License as being paid by Financial Aid)

Will I be able to mark the License as “being paid by Financial Aid” due to Cal Grant? Ugh, I guess the cutting back on spending for college starts now!

My mom over-stresses about everything. Should I let her know of the $2125 even if I plan on marking the financial aid option?

you should definitely let her know. But keep in mind, it’s gonna cost well over two thousand dollars to go to college anyway. If you can’t use the fafsa money for housing, there will be other things to spend it on, like books, the other housing payments, and the tuition.

Yes, I understand that college will be very expensive; it’s just that I wasn’t expecting a big charge this soon.

I’m sure there are various Early Decision kids out there that still don’t know they have to pay $2,125 by March 1st. It’s going to be a big surprise when they try applying for housing…

Cal Grant will not be enough to defer housing and dinning fees. Scroll down on this link for the chart that indicates amount of Financial Aid needed:
[Using Financial Aid to Pay Housing and Meals - Student Accounts - AFD - Cal Poly](<a href=“Financial Aid Defer - Student Accounts - Cal Poly”>Financial Aid Defer - Student Accounts - Cal Poly)

Ouch, that’s not good…

Hopefully the tax returns will help out by then…

Early Decision Admitted Students who miss the Application Process or Payment date can apply with regular Fall Admitted Students beginning mid-February (date to be determined).

Would it be a big deal if I were to miss the payment date? Would I risk anything? They don’t pick roommates until later anyways no? Anything at all wrong with this? The ED payment is due March 1st. Would there be a later date for Regular decision kids?

I think you should call the admissions office

@slimsta Last year 36,000 freshmen applied.
The daughter of a friend of mine applied to Cal Poly Pomona a few years back. Pomona requires certain applicants to live on campus the first year, she missed the payment and they dropped her. Her dad went to the school’s admissions office and begged them to let her in. Admissions told him there were many thousands of other applicants in line behind her, when she missed her housing payment they gave her place to the next person in line, no way for her to get back in for that year. Cal Poly is a dream school for many kids who just missed the cut. It would be a shame to give your place away.

You’re right. I’m going to do whatever necessary to pay the due. I didn’t buy a CP hoodie for nothing!! ;)

Cal Poly SLO does not require Freshmen to live on-campus, but highly recommends it. You should contact University Housing, (805) 756-1226 or [University Housing for On-Campus Students - University Housing - Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo](http://www.housing.calpoly.edu), to find out what your options are.
