Is anyone else considering doing the whole 3 person per room thing? If it's done in Rubin, you could save about 5K a year! But the inconvenience....but then they'd probably give you a bigger room than the regular 2 person, right?......

I like Hayden the best....Rubin's my #2, Brittany #3....

I dunno... I'm thinking, if I get in, which there's a very good chance that I won't, then I'll try to get into Hayden....
A lot of people like it, though.

hmm....so maybe it would be an advantage to do the 3 person thing...I wonder if a lot of people do it, because if, say, 17 sign up ED, then they're missing one more person--so that extra needed person would be more likely to get into Hayden than a reg applicant.

I want to say that there are 3 triples on each floor in Hayden (2 of them are part of a 5-person suite). It seems fine, and not even everybody signs up for triples, some people just get placed in them. My friend, who lives in one, has it arranged in such a fashion that one roommate moved his bed into the very large "closet", and all 3 desks and 2 beds are in the main room. While the closet seems degrading, it's convenient if you like privacy, especially if you have the occasional "overnight visitor". Triples in Hayden aren't bad at all. Just throwin it out there.

They do, but only upperclass dorms, and you're not allowed to go on them. It sucks, but that's what happens when people...you already know if you asked about the balconies.

that's terrible! :(! so awful :( poor people....what must they have been thinking? :( And now the school must remove "temptation"? here we are, excited as anything to get into NYU and yet, there are those who want to die to get away...What a world.

(excuse me if i sound a bit melancholy...i literally just finished watching last weeks school shooting episode of one tree hill about 7 minutes ago and it was really a bummer on life)

for those who plan on living in hayden, getting a low cost triple isn't that bad. there are two on each floor...one (which has windows opening to the north) is rediculously small. the other (windows open to park -x11) is amazing. I live in one right now, and although it's a 5 person suite, it is definitely not as bad as i thought it would be when i first got here. with a little furniture rearranging and putting a bed in the closet, you can have enough room to put a couch in. (sorry, don't have any pictures i can put on)

my only gripe with the suite is the bathroom. in my particular suite, there really isn't any ventilation, so it gets dirty and smelly real fast. but im a dude, so it doesnt bother me that much. also, watch out for falling bathroom ceilings. mine did, and the resulting clean-up triggered a fire alarm and a pretty substantial fireman response (those that live in hayden probably remember/heard of this).

that being said, the rooms actually feel like rooms and not prison cells like weinstein. also, the dining staff are great, and their varying personalities make for good conversation (look for Alfonso and Rickie...they're like a tag team of rediculousness). Hayden also has a month-long event called "Floor Wars," which is really fun if you get into it (3rd Floor "Floor Wars" Champions - ETERNAL GLORY! what what!)

the smelly bathroom thing--that's just for your suite or all low cost triples (or even all bathrooms in general)?

but other than that, you've really annihilated all of my doubts :) hayden will be my first choice :) I'm really getting excited!!!!!!!!!!! :):):)

Air conditioning is a main factor, and trust me, as much as people say you don't need it for long in NYC, you die if you don't have it for several weeks at the beginning and end of each year. Weinstein has the best location of any dorm, IMO. It has the best variety of eating options without going outside your dorm. And the location is best. Brittany is old and has more of a problem with rodents and bugs than most of the other dorms (although you'll probably see some of each in every dorm at some point). Not that the housing dept. is basing their rates on mice and cockroaches but yeah, that's basically the breakdown on the other issues.

How incovenient is UHall in terms of getting to classes? I think Hayden would be my first choice but obviously not everybody can get in, so I need other choices.

UHall is not inconvenient, considering that all upperclassmen living on Union Square have to walk to class as well. We're talkin' a 10-12 minute walk, if you walk like you're not in a coma. I don't remember what I picked as a second choice, but definitely place UHall over 3rd North, as UHall is just a better version in a better location. I've never been in Goddard, though it receives mixed reviews. I've only been in Brittany for orientation, so I don't really remember. Weinstein is small, but its location is second only to Hayden, and if you don't have a lot of crap to bring with you, it's not so bad. Only been in Rubin once, and didn't really check it out well. UHall is really nice, if you're willing to live far away from all the other freshmen (other than the UHall kids). I'd hold off on Union Square until sophomore year. By the way, there's a book called "College ******* :____, Off the Record" where the blank is the name of the school. They publish books for about 300 colleges that break them down into virtually every conceivable category, from academics, to food, to guys/girls, to drug scene, etc. Highly recommended if you're debating between a few schools.

i heard the triples in brittany are really nice and they have a great layout...if anyone has pix of a triple i would really appreciate it.

i am sooo confused for where to live next year, i really do want a kitchen so i am leaning towards uhall, but i feel like i may be missing out, everyone speaks of how social rubin/hayden/brittany are. is uhall really that much more anti social than the other freshmen dorms?

I think I want UHall or 3rd North next year [I kind of NEED to cook my own food]... and I'm leaning towards 3rd because it has a fitness center, however, UHall is a better dorm. If I get into UHall, whats the deal with using a gym? Can I go to the one at Palladium?
