Housing, placement test, and requirements to graduate

I got into the business school, which house should I go?

Last time I check, I think u of I offers chinese; I only had 3 years of french in high school but I'm chinese (speaks perfect chinese)... so do I still have to take foreign language to graduate?

and what do I have to take to graduate?

Last time I check, I think u of I offers chinese; I only had 3 years of french in high school but I’m chinese (speaks perfect chinese)… so do I still have to take foreign language to graduate?

no, 3 years of a high school language is enough to be exempt from the language requirement.

also, if anyone else is curious, achieving the third year level of a high school language is also adequate. i completed french 3 in only two years of high school since i also took french in jr high and that satisfied my foreign language requirement.

and what do I have to take to graduate?

whatever’s required for your major

talk to your academic adviser when you register for classes.

Above on language is incorrect. For business school you escape the placement test or taking language in college if you have four years of high school language (that is a business school requirement). With only three, you need to take the placement test and then complete the fourth semester college level of language (which they consider the equivalent of four years of a high school language). You may be able to pass out of the requirement needed for graduation once in college by taking a proficiency exam (different from a placement test) in Chinese. As far as residence halls go, it really does not matter–there is no special dorm for business majors and they are in all dorms.

Oops. my bad. I didnt realize that there was a specific language requirement for business.

which residence hall is closest to the business school? (I haven’t visit u of i yet) I assume business classes are all in one section, engineer classes in another, etc…?

what are the prices for each housing? or are they all the same

The housing website provides a wealth of information regarding this.

[Incoming | University Housing at Illinois](http://www.housing.illinois.edu/Future/Incoming.aspx)

not really, I already tried but I can’t seem to find a $$ sign anywhere on the web.

even tried google “uiuc housing price”…

the price with the meal plan i was signed up for (before switching to private housing) was 10 meals/week w 60 cafe credits in a standard double room - $10,200. apparently this is a very typical meal plan one that many kids do. all university dorms are the same price.

Residence hall rates are published: [2010-2011 Rates | University Housing at Illinois](http://www.housing.illinois.edu/Housing/Rates/2010-2011/2010-2011%20Rates.aspx)

thanks guys

Do you also need to take a placement test as a new international graduate student (M.S., Civil Engineering)? :-)
