Are any of the freshmen dorms significantly better than the rest? Which ones would you suggest for a double room? I feel like it would be a waste to not request something...

Thanks,

Ranking:

1- Branscomb Quad - all doubles

2- Vanderbilt and Barnard Halls

3- Kissam Quad - all singles

Is there any difference between the houses within Branscomb? The descriptions say that Vaughn and Scales have half baths; are they harder to get into, more desirable?

Yes, they are harder to get and more desirable.

But all you get to choose is whether you want a double or a single, You don't get to rank your preference for a hall.

Maybe they changed that because the form I got in the mail says that housing requests will be accomodated in a random order to not give preference to ED kids.

everything said here is true. all you get to chose is a single or double. From experience, don't bother requesting roomates at all if you want a double, even if they seem like cool people. they can still be horrible. also, though kissam and the singles are a long way away, if you are outgoing, a single can be the best thing to happen to you.

I agree! I live in Kissam right now, and I love my single! The great thing is everyone there (about 600 of the freshmen!) are all in singles...so it's like having a whole floor of roommates.

This video shows the inside of a Branscomb Dorm (Vaughn):
