I don't know if anyone did a thread like this already, so sorry if it already exists...

Anyway, I understand that you can apply for housing before actually being admitted to save a spot. But I HAVE been admitted. Minnesota is my second choice school, and I won't hear from my first choice until late March. I definitely want priority just in case I don't get admitted to my first choice school, but I'm afraid that since I'm already in Minnesota filling out the housing app will tie me down to the school.

So, it's probably a silly question, but can I still turn down Minnesota if I fill out the housing app?

aspire2011…U of Minn seperates the Housing Application Fee from the Acceptance fee, so yes you can. I’d recommend you send in your Housing App ASAP since the date they receive and process your $25 Housing Fee sets your priority for receiving your Housing assignment. When you fill out the Housing App you’ll rank order the various dorms and types of room (single, double, triple, suite), but once your application is processed and available online you can go back and change your preferences but your priority date will still hold. That’s nice for people who maybe haven’t had a chance to visit the campus yet and find their preferences change as the year goes on. The $225 Acceptance Fee is what would “commit” you to U of Minn and doesn’t need to be paid in order to get Housing priority.

You will not be committed by filling out the housing application. Just out the $25 fee.

Thanks, you two are the best♥
