Hi All - could someone please confirm a few things about securing housing at Tulane for the fall of 2019:
Does anybody know whether/if the Housing Portal to submit your application for housing is available ONLY once you’ve deposited $500 (assuming yes - but can’t find anywhere)?
If so, is there any disadvantage for submitting this application closer to the national commit day of May 1st? In other words, is there any element of “first come, first serve” to the housing selection process (Honors notwithstanding - as I hear their guaranteed certain dorms - Wall I think). They say on timeline that May 8th application to new students closes, leaving a week.
If you haven’t identified or selected a roommate by May 8th, do you have to go “random selection”, or can that be updated at a later point in the spring/summer as they reach out to people?
My son is still waiting on a decision from another school and waiting on merit before he can officially commit, but it’s looking likely he will attend Tulane (which we’re very excited about) and he is concerned he’ll have missed out by not making his decision by then…
You can only access the housing portal after you deposited your money. I thought I had to pay $750 though, not $500. Then once you deposit, give them a few days to process it and you’ll need to receive your Tulane ID, email and password in order to access the housing portal.
It is NOT first come, first serve. As long as you meet the deadlines you have an equal shot at your housing preferences as everyone else. To be clear Honors students are not guaranteed Wall although they are given heavy preference to Wall. Due to the uncertainty of the numbers, there are really no guarantees. Straight from the housing portal:
-First year students will need need to complete the housing application and agreement by May 8th.
-All new students will be able to preference roommates beginning on June 3rd. All roommates will need to be confirmed by June 14th.
Nope, you still have some time after May 8th to settle on roommate preferences (June 14th)
I think you’ll be fine as long as you put down your deposit before May 1st, and I’m guessing your merit decisions will come in the next week or two so that should be fine.
