How is the housing situation for a incoming freshman? Are there choices a freshman has? If there are what is the dorm of choice and why..thanks!

There are no “freshman” dorms that are strictly for freshman, everyone is mixed with everyone else. You may end up with a freshman if you random roommate, but you may not.

You may choose to enter chem-free housing (no drinking/substances), break housing (for people who need to be at school through breaks- internationals, athletes, OOS) or a special interest based community (engineering, pre-law and others. I was in the pre-law one).

You then rank your choices for communities (College-in-the-Woods, Mountainview, Hinman, Dickinson, and Newing). You cannot live in an apartment as a freshman, nor can you have a single unless it is for medical reasons. If you want to enter an interest community, the living community it is located in will automatically be the first choice (i.e. - CIW is first if you choose pre-law).

In June you will know your community assignment and in August you will know the hall, room number and roommate. If you do break housing there are only certain halls it can be so you will know your hall once you have been assigned a community. Same for interest communities (pre-law is in Oneida, so I knew I would be placed there).
