hi! so next year i'm hoping to live in birnkrant. i'm a trustee, and i requested it right away!
i'm very interested in living in a single, and i was wondering if freshman at USC can be assigned singles, or if they are given to upperclassman. my second choice would be a birnkrant triple, but i want to take single off my request list if they aren't possible options for freshman!

also, i'd appreciate any opinions on whether having a single freshman year is a good idea.
if i'm assigned a single in birnkrant, new, or north, i'm not as worried since those are relatively social dorms (i'll just leave my door open and go out and meet people)
has anyone found that the roommate experience is particularly critical at USC freshman year?

thanks sooo muchh!! =)

As far as I know (I’m a freshman in Birnkrant) the only singles in Birnkrant are on the 8th floor and only upperclassmen get those rooms.
There ARE some singles in New/North… I have only met one guy who has one and he’s not a huge fan. I personally think that the roommate experience is a good one to have. I’m not a huge fan of my roomie this year, but it’s taught me a little bit about how to get along with someone you don’t necessarily mesh with, and I’ve made a ton of friends on my floor anyway. Also, having a roommate does make it easier to meet people because in general you’re just interacting with more people more often. In a single it’s easier and tempting to shut yourself off… just my opinion.
I would go for the birnkrant triple first. It’s the size of two doubles but with three people in it so it gives you more breathing room. The only downside is that it is a little bit more difficult to get privacy there because you have two roommates instead of one, and the triples tend to be the rooms people will gather to hang out in.
