Hello! I have been accepted into IU and a DA at Kelley, and if I do go to IU, I will apply to be in the Kelley LLC, which I understand I need to apply to. That would be fine, but, as my name suggests, I also have interest in University of Michigan. I intend to turn in my application in the next two weeks, and hear by mid-april (they are very vague as to when RA applicants hear back at UMich...). Would committing to IU in mid-april after I hear if I was accepted into UMich or not affect my chances with being placed into the Kelley LLC? And when is the deadline? And is there anything you can tell me about the application process? Thank you!

Yes. Housing is uber-competitive, especially for things like the Kelley-LLC. If you are wanting to get in, it is worth to swallow the $100 cost if you decide to go to UMich (you pay $300 up-front/$200 is refundable).

So just for clarification, I do not need to have committed to IU to apply for housing? So long as you’ve already been accepted? And the time you apply actualyl does matter? If that’s the case, I will certainly do what you suggest. Is there a hard deadline for housing? (I keep hearing May 1st being brought up)

You better attempt the Kelley LLC crazy early. telling IU that you commited early is going to be in your best interest for scholarships, but Michigan has a better program.

I was turned off by this originally, but then I realized that saving money was far better. Undergraduate is the same almost everywhere now. I don’t know the difference between the business schools in the top 20, it might be minuscule.

You still have great potential for success at IU and you can still go to Michigan and end up not getting a job. It matter how much you put into the academics that matters. They teach the same stuff, so there nearly is no difference between an A+ student at both schools.

This post isn’t comparing the two schools and I don’t seek to do that. Yet my original question is still unanswered. From what I’m gathering, the time of applying DOES affect your chances (I have a friend who lives at the KLLC and he applied early April I believe)? And I need to make a deposit for housing, but I do not need to commit to apply for the housing? If someone could answer these directly I would really appreciate it.

Yes. You can send in your housing deposit whenever-- it is $300, but $200 of that is refundable before May 1, I belive. You do not need to have comitted to apply for housing, and in most situations, it is encouraged that you apply early to get better consideration for housing options if you do decide to attend IU. The housing deposit is different from the enrollment deposit, which will committ you to IU.

You do not need to commit to IU to apply for housing, including the Kelley LLC.

Housing choices are generally “first come, first choice” and that includes Kelley LLC. I believe since opening in the Fall of 2009, Kelley LLC has grown in size. I could be wrong about that.

Thank you very much! I’ll begin my application shortly.
