<p>Alright. So i’m trying to find the perfect housing for me and am stuck between many criteria of my own… i’m gonna need some help!</p>
<p>Here’s what i’m looking for:
I’m gonna be an RTVF major, so i’d prefer the south campus. Walking is fine with me but i hate walking through cold so it’d be great to stay close to campus. But of course like most people… facilities and neatness matters to me a lot so i want larger and neater space. Preferrably, i want to live in a dorm that has its own dining hall. and population wise… not too big, not too small? Don’t want huge party dorms and really noisy ones.
Yes… so it’s a pretty tough choice i think. (am i being too picky?)</p>
<p>so given that, i have some specific questions. Plz answer any that you can! </p>
<li><p>CRC - room sizes are about Hinman’s? which i thought were kinda small… But would you say the extra facilities there, such as the dark room, screening room, etc., are worthy enough? Are they well maintained?</p></li>
<li><p>Chapin and Willard ppl, would you say the walk to classes are kinda long? is it pretty difficult in the winter?</p></li>
<li><p>What’s the atmosphere like in Willard? Is it a party dorm? Loud and super social?</p></li>
<li><p>What about in Chapin? how’s the atmosphere there?</p></li>
<li><p>Could someone compare Chapin and Willard? Tell me which is better! :]</p></li>
<li><p>How’s Willard’s food?</p></li>
<li><p>Compare Hinman and Willard?</p></li>
<li><p>If i lived up north campus, would the distance to class get annoying? (cuz Slivka was really nice!!)</p></li>
<li><p>I hear Shepherd just went under renovation? Is it very nice? Which is the nicest dorm on south campus?</p></li>
<li><p>Other than answering these questions, any comments or advices? Given my preferences, are there any other dorms I should consider?</p></li>

<p>hmmm i've never lived in any of the dorms but i've been in them and eaten at them so take my advice for what it's worth...Sheperd kinda sucks...allison sounds like a good fit for you if you want nice facilities/dining hall/relatively quiet. Hinman is prolly also a very good choice. Hinman and Allison are both pretty south and Willard is tucked within the sorority quads. Hinman, Willard, and Allison all have good food...so does plex.</p>
<p>i dunno exactly i never lived in them...all I know is they have nice rooms/facilities. My friend lived in Willard and when I went there to work on a project it seemed pretty quiet...rooms are relatively spacioius (have a relatively large closet if i remember and a unique dining system where everything is made to order) and comparable to the size of allison. If I remember correctly Hinman is really nice (has own dining facility and quick shop).
I'm not really sure which dorms are quiet but I think it's really hit or miss...you might get a quiet floor or you might get a loud ass floor. I don't think you can go wrong with Hinman, Allison, or Willard. I went to sheperd the other day and was not impressed by the rooms. But if you like the whole residential college it would prolly be the way to go.<br>
If I were a freshmen again I would rank my list like this:
Hinman > Willard > Allison > KEMPER (wishful thinking lol)</p>
<p>I don't live in Chapin, but I know 2 people who live there. Most people have never even heard of that Res College, since it's so small, but anyway... It has a very close-knit feel to it, since there's only like 60-70(?) people living there. The walk to classes is kind of long though, especially if you have any classes up North. It's convenient, in that it's located next to downtown, where all the shops and restaurants are. Anyway, hope that somewhat helped.</p>
<p>I wouldn't live on north campus as an RTVF major. Slivka may be nice, but you'll also be surrounded by engineers and science majors (if that's what you want), and it'll be a btch to get south in the winter.</p>
<p>Shepard got new carpeting and furniture. The room set-up is almost identical to Elder's, but the rooms are a lot larger. The stairwells and bathrooms are kinda sketch though.</p>

<p>Allison is a good choice, but it's a pretty big dorm, and the dining hall does close on weekends (as does Willard's), so you'll most likely be eating at plex or Hinman then.</p>
<p>Allison is never loud enough to be distracting, and the rooms are pretty huge. I never had a problem falling asleep or studying in my room, and my usually crazy neighbors never distracted me and I never distracted my quiet neighboors when I had a party.</p>
<p>i'm posting this from my double in allison hall, and if you live on south campus, make sure to live in allison or hinman. the res colleges are quite socially isolated and unless you are looking for that i highly highly recommend living in a bigger dorm. they are not at all too loud/party dorms. best! --current sophomore</p>
<p>Allison is very popular as a first choice, so don't count on getting it if you put it as your first choice! Make sure you have backups. I myself am biased toward Willard, since I live there and I think it's awesome, but yeah.</p>
<p>Well, I don't really go over to Allison, so I don't have much of a comparison, but as for Willard- I love the people in Willard, and the events are pretty awesome. The rooms are huge (and we have walk in closets!), we have a game room and a tv lounge and a common room and there's the Rat Trap and the Mouse Trap if you want to hang out there, there are firesides, we have awesome munchies, there are the faculty fellows (professors who are members of your college, you can eat lunch/dinner with them. They're really cool! They come from all different departments) Also, our formal and polka party is pretty sweet. The dining hall is also pretty cozy.</p>
<p>It's just a really great environment and I love it.</p>

<p>I don't know why people are bashing Shepard. I lived there for two years and it really made my Freshman year amazing! Its not a huge party dorm, but if you want to go find a party on North Campus, you'll definitely be able to find people to go with. Its a great community (being a Res College, you definitely get lots of fun events planned), and the people are generally nice and fun. I'd definitely put it on your list.</p>
<p>The Rat Trap and the Mouse Trap are two big rooms in the basement where you can hang out, do homework, rehearse for a show, do dance practice, watch movies, go to firesides, etc. etc. The kitchen is also beside the Rat Trap.</p>
<p>In terms of getting to classes, it's not bad at all. I can get to Kresge, University Hall, and Fisk in less than 10 minutes, 4 if I run. </p>
<p>Annenberg and Tech take more time b/c they're on North Campus. Tech can take up to 15 minutes if you're walking slowly and 10 minutes at a brisk walk. With a bike, you can get there in three, I hear (I don't have a bike myself, so I wouldn't know).</p>
<p>Sheperd is nice! I'm not supposed to say this because of our "rivalry" and all, but that's silly. A lot of people actually put Willard as their first and Shepard as their second or vice versa.</p>
