Housing question? Particularly west campus dorms?

I really like the layout of the towers, but I’m a little frightened that the same space that houses 2 persons in one room houses 4 in another… is it possible to make sure you get a double rather than quad? Otherwise I may die of claustrophobia.
Hypothetically, could you request that if you don’t get a double in west campus then you’d rather live in south campus…?

Oh, also. Does anyone know which dorms tend to fill up the fastest?

The towers do fill up faster than some other dorms so put in your request early. Housing does a great job trying to get people into the housing they want. In your housing request you will be asked to prioritize your preferences. You might specify that room type (a double) is your first priority, then building preference, etc. If you don’t feel the preference selection adequately covers how you feel, you can email or call the housing office to better explain what it is you want. It think they really try their best but getting your request in early is key. I know more student space is opening in Lincoln so maybe it won’t be as congested as before.

Thanks, that’s interesting and may change how I apply…
I wish I COULD get it in early, but I still haven’t received the acceptance fee forms. :S

I really want to live in Lincoln also, and I sent in my deposit like a month ago, has anyone gotten Housing forms yet?

Casetmh2010,

My daughter is still waiting for the forms too… After waiting for months on the deferred list, now it’s another wait just to formally accept and start all the other registration processes. Hopefully, they’ll get the forms out this week.

rleffler - don’t wait for the forms. I just talked to admissions today, and they told me that by the time they arrive it will be too late to return them in time. They told me instead to just send them a letter saying I accept with a check for 100 dollars.

My daughter’s letter came in the mail today. Was dropped off back at the post office shortly afterwards.

I will say this about west campus housing: it is kind of removed from the rest of campus. North campus is honors dorms and a little more quiet…south campus is a little more rowdy but a big area and everyone gets close…its also not far from anything…and west campus is just over by the stadium/rpac and removed from any other dorms or major buildings. Just a point to consider…

I lived on West. It is fantastic and I highly recommend it.

The 4-person quad is something to be somewhat concerned about. When I was a freshman, only one suite per floor had a quad – good odds. As a sophomore there were more, but new dorms have opened since then so it might be back down. Still, even with one quad per suite you’re still much more likely to live in a 2-person than not.

I think it’s worth the risk. 4 can be a little tight if you’re living with someone messy, but you still have a whole living room and big bathroom compared to south or north.

IIRC the four person rooms are always the fourth room in the suite. (They go Floor number, then suite number, then room number: so on floor 20, suite 2 it would be: 2024.) They don’t always put 4 people in, but they’re outfitted for that many. If that’s any help.

My son is in engineerng honors and is trying to decide between Lincoln (west) and Taylor (north). anyone with advice or first hand experience ???

dd’s good friend turned housing in after orientation…did not get south as requested, but placed in towers with 3 roomies, instead of 1. Not every room in her suite had 4 so not that 16 sharing the common spaces. She did not like the location and one roomie made her miserable. Luckily recognized right away and applied for transfer which she got as soon as space in south and is now much happier.

I have heard that most are happy with their choice so pick based on proximity to classes, church, social, eating…whatever is most important to you. My dd did not want to clean her own bathroom or live in a dirty one so north out for her. She also felt towers too far from where she saw herself spending most of her time.
