Housing Question: To Do or Not to Do

Just got accepted on Friday of last. I had applied for housing back on March 5 and they just offered me the housing contract today. I'm guessing it would be still the late triple or maybe something decent perhaps? I've found several nice off campus housing but I'm transferring in from a CC and I feel that when I get up there I would be totally lost. Is it worth it to pay for housing on campus or is it better to save some money and get more space off? Thanks!

Off-campus is much better, and you won’t be that lost. The only problem is many off-campus apartments are probably full by now. If you can find a good complex that will offer you a lease, I’d definitely take it.
On-campus can be miserable normally, let alone in a late-application triple.

I’m hunting on craigslist for subleases for a room right now and surprisingly there’s a lot, decent too. I’m leaning more to the housing available below Archer Street. Is there any tips you could provide me like a fair price range or how to go about on craigslist? First time using it and I’m a bit unsure :/

I can’t really help with Craigslist, but I will say that for a 4/4 the typical price for very close to campus is anywhere from $499-$550. The further you get from campus the more you can expect this price (and the price of 2/2s, 3/3s) to drop.
Also, if you go on Facebook and find the “UF Class of 201X” group (whatever year you are), you can find people offering subleases there or post about wanting to find one. That way you actually can communicate directly with people and be reassured a little more than Craigslist.

It all really depends on what you want. If you’re willing to share a bathroom, if you’re willing to live in an older building, is the community gated or not, do you want a place that’s all inclusive etc. I’d say you can find a room anywhere from $350-$600. For nicer places with your own bathroom you can expect to pay around $500 per room. More, depending on how many roomates you have. The more roomates, the cheaper it usually is.

Since you will be a JR I would lean towards staying off campus.
DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT accept a triple you will be miserable. To live with two other people that you do not know? In a 350 sf area is for the birds (caged birds)

Call the estates and see if they have anyone looking for roommates. It has great bus service to campus.

My is going to live in Keys. But had he not gotten into Keys, he would have moved to the Escape. They are very nice.

Good Luck to you.
