OKAY, so i'm unsure if I want to dorm or not. I live 30 mins for UCLA and traffic is a pain. But I don't know if I want to spend 10,000 to live on campus. The cal grant pretty much paid for my tuition 6200 out of 6750 and my parents will cover the rest and books. But I was wondering if you apply for housing by MAY 1, can you later decline the offer to stay there. The thingk is I'm not sure so I don't want to commit unless I'm 100% sure im gonnna dorm. And do you guys think I should dorm.

There's no obligation for housing until you accept the offer, which is when you make the initial payment. So if that is correct (which I think it is), then applying for housing is no harm except for losing out on $30.

You should dorm, at least for the first year, unless there are financial/personal contraints.

There's no personal reason, but is there a way of having my parents pay the tuition throughout the year, and leave the room and board for for loans/ work study

You only pay tuition and other fees for one quarter at a time. So it's about $2200 or so each quarter.

Housing payment schedules are more flexible. You pay a chunk (in 1 or 2 installments) during the summer and then the rest is divided into monthly or quarterly payments during the year. You can also pay in full.

Financial aid (except Work Study) is therefore disbursed quarterly as well.
