Does paying the deposit and applying for housing early guarantee you get into the dorm of your choice, or at least increase your chances? I really want Glenn or Towers.
Yes, applying earlier does increase your chances of getting the spot you want since freshman housing priority is based on your housing application date. But if you have a roommate in mind who has not yet been accepted, I think you might have to wait. Also keep in mind that if you enroll in the honors or grand challenges programs, you will be guaranteed a spot in their dorms. Chances are that if you apply right now that you’ll likely have your pick of dorms.
@InPursuit What if I’m not sure about attending, can I still pay and then withdraw before May 1?
I looked it up. $250 to accept the offer of admission, and then a $600 deposit on the dorm. If you cancel before March 1 (I think) you get $375 back, but that amount decreases as time goes on.
@CaptainKO Can you send the link to where you found this? I looked all over the admitted student page and the housing website but haven’t found anything.
@CaptainKO So I can accept the admissions officer and pay the deposit, but if I decide against it before May 1, it would be fine? (Other than the lost money, of course)
I think so, you’d be out somewhere like $500.
Honestly I dont think its worth doing. Chances are slim you live in one of those two dorms. If you have not seen the dorms on campus you would know why. Much more is involved in dorm placement such as roommate choice. And most people don’t jump to pay for housing at GT like at other state schools. You have planty of time. Honestly its not as much about the dorm but east versus west.
