So, I've kinda decided I want to either be put into Alice Lloyd or South Quad as my ideal dorms, but as a transfer, I'm kinda confused about somethings...

It says that current students have first priority
Then Freshmen who are contacted Mid March
Then Transfers who are contacted Late March

I think I got that right...

However, a few friends from Michigan were telling me that they applied for housing late, like late April/May. Was wondering if they were just lazy? Or what?

I'm thinking if I apply... earlier, I'll get into the random drawing... faster and get my choice dorm?

Also, do people know if transfers get to choose dorms, or only like Hill, Central and North?

Incoming students don't get to choose individual dorms. They can request Central/Hill or North -- but there are more people who want Central/Hill than there is space available. There should be plenty of room for transfer students this year.

But can anyone who's a current student, answer the question about when they personally applied for housing?

My friends... all did around late April --> May and I'm thinking they're just lazy, but they've got their first choice

yet... another person who applied in April (from my school), got stuck in North Campus, with North being his last choice, behind Central and Hill

There's actually tons of engineers in South Quad. It's not all that different from being anywhere on Central or the Hill. And the Union bus stop is 5 feet away.

Applying early doesn't guarantee you'll get your first choice. If your application is received by the deadline, they put you in a lottery and everyone has an equal shot at getting their first (or last) choice. I'm not sure that transfer students are put in the lottery, however. I think they take care of housing for first-year students first. Also, sometimes they put transfer students together.

Someone who went to UMich a long time ago told me that Hill is the more sedate area and South Quad is where all the loud party people and football players live. I want to be in the quieter area. Which is now the quiet section? Is it still the Hill area? If so, then why is Honors in south quad?

Well, it really may depend on who is on your floor as much as anything -- but if you don't mind North Campus, Baits is pretty quiet. On Central, Oxford is quiet and so is Fletcher. Oxford has a small dining hall that doesn't serve meals on the weekends. And Fletcher also doesn't have a dining hall. You have to walk to South Quad for meals.

I think what I'm going to do is get a friend of mine to ... get a single in South Quad or Alice Lloyd, and from there, I'll just do a contract reassignment and get that room instead.

Since he's living off campus, that should work... I hope >_>

gee, Madmac1, you wouldnt be affiliated with that website, would you? There are no reviews for U-M, and every post you've ever "contributed" refer someone to this site. Paid by the hit?

Compaq - because there was plenty of room for transfer students this year -- and next year there are going to be fewer sophomores on campus -- just because of the smaller size of the freshman class this year -- which means there will be even more room for transfer students.
