Housing question

When you request your housing preference, are you allowed to request the room capacity or do you just pick a building? I’m wondering if a student prefers a double if that’s what he’ll get or if the student picks the building, but Housing chooses what kind of room the student gets.

Thanks,
Erica

if you choose anything on north campus as a freshman you'll get put in a quad. the only way to get around that is if you have a friend that is a sophmore or above that wants to live with you, you can request each other and most likely you'll end up in a double. Most of the rooms in South are doubles, but there are some singles that are usually reserved for non-freshmen. I'm not really that familiar with Morrill or Lincoln, but I'm pretty sure that freshmen live in quads or triples there as well.

So, just to clarify, when you say quad do you mean a suite style quad with its own bathroom? Or is it a quad with public floor bathrooms?

kjmyers215- It depends on the layout of the dorms, although off the top of my head I'm not aware of any dorms that have quads with a corridor bath. Then again, they apparently exist (University Housing : Current/Admitted : Policies, Contracts, and Fees : Housing Fees and Due Dates) on South. I've never ever met anyone in this arrangement though.

North freshmen almost always get quads with a private bathroom. West (Lincoln, Morrill) freshmen tend to (majority) get quads, but there are a number of freshmen who got doubles. South is smaller rooms in general, usually in doubles.
