Hey all, I've been reading through threads about how the UT housing system works, but I'm still somewhat confused on something. I read that dorm choice priority is based on who pays the $50 application fee first, but I see posts saying how San Jac is already filled now. So if you applied early, but haven't paid the enrollment deposit or filled out the housing contract, do you still get priority over those who requested a dorm already? I applied and paid for the housing app back on October 31, but haven't done anything else, so I'm wondering if I can still get into San Jac or Duren. Thanks!

You may still have a chance to get San Jac…Better chance than people who paid Nov. 1 or later at least…

Just pay the enrollment and housing deposit and make your housing choices by July 1st…I don’t even think the housing people look at students’ choices until after that…(which is when your $50 comes into play)

So do they receive everyone’s housing contracts and then make a decision based completely on who turned in the housing app first? Or have people already been assigned to the dorms they want after they turn in the housing contract?

no, after you turn in your housing contract, you get until July 1 to pick your top 5 dorms. therefore, they don’t start deciding until July 1.

but all housing priority is solely based on when you turn in your housing app

Room assignments are made after July 1. They are assigned based on your choices and when you paid your $50 housing application fee.

Do the assignments to the honors dorms work the same way? I got the impression from the engineering department that they had some control over the placement in the honors dorms.

I think it is very likely that nearly every honors student who wants to live in the honors dorms will get a spot in the honors dorms, unless they really wait til the last minute. The housing office does work with the honors programs to make sure those who say they are in an honors program really are.
