Housing Question

I've read threads saying housing on north campus was unideal, but I had a more basic question...

How/When do freshman apply for housing for the new school year?

Through WA?
Via email?

Do we get to chose where we live, or is it decided for us?

Thanks!

Once you pay your deposit (and confirmed it has been received by the email UMich sends you), you should be able go here [UM Housing - My Housing](http://www.housing.umich.edu/myhousing/) and start a new freshman application for housing.

You rank your preferences (Central/Hill, North - Bursley, North - Baits), and if you submit it before May 7th (I think. You might want to check though), you’re entered into the housing lottery. The people whose name gets drawn first has a higher chance of getting the housing they request. If you submit your application after May 7th, you’ll just get what’s left over.

Thanks!

How would you rank them for an LSA student?

I guess if you’re LSA, you’d probably want Central/Hill. I’m a theater major, so I’m going for North, since 90% of my classes will be on North Campus and I don’t want to make that 10 minute bus trip from Central to North every day haha. And I heard Bursley is the more sociable dorm + cafeteria. The Baits houses are more quiet but more chance of getting a single room.

I heard that most freshman get placed in North though, due to limited space in Central/Hill because sophomores and above get first dibs and they pick Central. No harm in trying though :)
