I am going to be a freshman this year and I had some questions about housing. First, if I don't like living on campus for the first semester, can I cancel my contract and live off campus the second semester? Also, I am considering living in Kinsolving, is that a good choice? If someone could describe the dorm in more detail that would be great. Thanks!

1.) Yes, you can cancel your housing contract at the semester.

2.) Kinsolving is all female, so I’m assuming you’re a girl. It’s convenient because it has a buffet inside the building, and it’s close to engineering, communications, and biology buildings. I mean, all-female is all-female… not much else to say about that.

Housing contracts end in May 2012. There is not a fall semester only contract. So in response to soadquake981, you cannot cancel your housing contract at the semester.

You can change dorms for second semester, if there are available rooms. My son switched from a double in Jester to a single in Brackenridge. So if you didn’t like the all-girls dorm, you could try a different one.

Oh, I’m sorry – I read a lot of things throughout the school year that mentioned moving out after the first semester (like for co-ops and such). I think these blurbs were usually called “Leaving the Land of the Longhorn”. I guess I was wrong about what it meant, but I would appreciate if someone could explain! Thanks!
